Crazy Stupid Love

Watched this for the first time in a while and I forgot how much I enjoy this movie.
But a real question. On what planet is there any scenario where Steve Carrel is the bad guy here? I mean his wife cheats on him, tells him while they’re on a date, and then basically keeps seeing him despite her kids obvious objections and somehow that’s his fault? Even with Marissa Tomei, sure they had a ONS. But let’s be real: recovering alcoholic trolling a bar for dates? And she’s obviously fricking crazy.
Now what he does to Gosling and his daughter, yeah not cool. But I’d react pretty hard if I found out.
Cal takes the fall at the end specifically because he wants to. She doesn’t deserve him. He didn’t “lose” her in the first place.
Anyways. Rant over. The reveal scene is so expertly shot and I laugh my arse off every single time.

One of the best rom coms
I watched this with friends on dvd when it came out and had stop the movie at the reveal. My brain was broken. I never saw that coming
The mom sucks. She got mad that Cal had a glow up and fricked all those hot chicks at this mysterious bar with the most beautiful people that is next door to a Dave and busters in a strip mall
I really enjoy the movie .

Crazy stupid love is one of the best written romantic comedies of all time. No cap.

Did you really think it was necessary to abbreviate in a 150 word rant about a movie?
Would three more have really broken you????

The way the ending comes together is downright Shakespearean in style. Really great writing. They don’t make them like that anymore.

it's one of my favorite "it all comes together" scenes ever.
CSL, Palm Springs, and About Time are the best romantic comedies this century.

even though everybody in this movie is fundamentally broken except Hannah and the forgotten younger daughter, it's an incredibly optimistic ending.

Amazing series of events

Yeah, I love the movie but the wife getting a pass on being the villain always pissed me off. Clearly written for MODERN AUDIENCES, where women can do no wrong.

Another good one of these types of movies is Dan In Real Life.
A little less funny, a little more slice of life and tragedy, but still same vein.
Also Carrell.
Also really good.

Same. She’s very overrated

i have an annual fall movie thread that i reply to myself every year in about it being the best ushering in fall movie ever. Great from top to bottom.
Hedges is an underrated director.

A novelty for Hollywood.

I’m not saying it’s justified, but I think the whole point is that Cal stopped making any effort. You could see on their date in the beginning that he seemed barely interested in even being there. She shouldn’t have cheated, but it was clear that the two of them had lost all sense of love in their relationship and were just going through the motions. Only after she left did he realize how much of a rut he had fallen into. Him going back to her shows what a good guy he is, because once he found himself again he was someone women wanted and he could have lived the bachelor lifestyle. But that didn’t appeal to him at the end of the day he wanted to keep his family whole and recommit to his high school love which honestly makes him one of the most likable rom com characters.

The scene where all the plot lines intersect at Cal and his wife's house is one of the funniest things ever. "What's a nana?"
