I've never understood the obsession with this, and so I always leave them off my order.

a layer of cool crisp freshness in contrast to saltier richer elements.

a good tomato adds tanginess to things as well.

I won't get these on any to-go order. They make the sandwich turn to mush by the time I eat it.

If you want lettuce and tomato, just order a salad.

I think the lettuce and tomato goes well on certain subs, like a spicy Italian, and also good on a club sandwich.

When I make hamburgers at home, I go for thin sliced tomato, purple onion, and dill relish. No lettuce.

So, you don't like your sandwiches "dressed"---------well, good for you, and order them the way you like them. Nobody cares.

Personally, I think lettuce, tomatoes and pickles enhance the taste of the sandwich and that's the way I like mine. Simple as that.

Cheese, onions (grilled or raw), pickles, and burger sauce on my homemade burgers.

Same. Good sliced pickle is always my contrast veggie.

Edit

And bacon

Never heard it described as an obsession.

BLTs and bacon on toast taste very different, some prefer one to the other.

Or, maybe, a Bacon, lettuce, & tomato sandwich?

This reminds me of my lunch last week. Hamburger salad. Shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes & onions, chopped pickles, shredded Americancheese, & Dijon/ pickle juice vinaigrette. Add a chopped grill burger patty & go to town.

No tomatoes on any sto-bought burger or sandwich.

My burgers and sandwiches in the summer when I have homegrown always have tomatoes.

Two things money can't buy...true love and homegrown tomatoes.
