Both are great films, but I sincerely prefer the earlier and somewhat more story diverse TRS over A13. It just comes across more of a man's man movie with an equally good cast as A13. IDK.

Chase the dragon and re-watch it one day. Totally holds up.

"Sir, over there, is that a man?

"Yeah, you're damn right it is"

Also, the incredible theme song was written by LSU alum Bill Conti.

It’s a shame The Right Stuff isn’t more well known by general audiences. Such a great movie.

I haven't seen The Right Stuff in years, but I loved it as a kid.

It always cracked me up when Scott Glenn was making all the Mexican jokes and got called out by the 6 foot tall Mexican nurse.

Netflix has a great doc on Apollo 11 right now. It’s all original audio and video. Zero voice overs or attempts at story telling. Just the whole thing from prep to take off to flight to landing on the moon and time on the moon and then back. It makes you feel like you were living in the late 60s and witnessing it all within 2 hours. Pretty good.

Although these movies are somewhat about the same subject, they are very, very different movies.
TRS was inspired by a book and is more textured in it's approach to characters, meaning and hostory, with some dark humor in it. Apollo 13 was meant to be a Hollywood blockbuster and told a pretty straight forward story. It was also inspired by a book.

Great running gag between Yeager and Ridley.

When he stalls out at the end I still get the chills.

Watched TRS as a kid. I bought Chuck Yeagers autobiography and read it because of the movie. He flew the Bell X-1 for 6 months before breaking the sound barrier. The movie made out like he did it in a single flight. He did break a few ribs 2 nights before the SB flight and got Ridley to daw off the mop handle so he could close the hatch door.

Yeager loved fishing for California golden trout. In the 1960’s he helped transport golden trout from Sierra Nevada lakes to New Mexico streams I orders from General Irving Twig.

Can we throw the "Martian" in with the other 2? Love all 3 movies, but I think the Martian is a cut above the other 2.

Levon Helm was very talented.

Beat me to it on his musical prowess with The Band.

Also played the “paper patch” ballistics expert opposite Mark Wahlberg in “Shooter”.
