Mineral for deer

Just picked up 50 lbs of minerals at my local co op. When do yall usually put them down. In research I see anytime from. Feb. to June.

I picked up some last year for livestock and they didn't touch it. I would like to know what to get and put out.

We put out red and white cattle salt blocks and dump a bag of deer cane on them. Deer find them quickly but seem to prefer the white blocks especially in the summer.

First sign of new green growth. I usually through a couple of red trace mineral blocks (which are 95-99% salt) around March 1 at my place (SW Mississippi).
I do the same thing but use Arm & Hammer washing soda (NOT baking soda) which is the main ingredient in deer cocaine but much cheaper.

I view that as a good thing. If they go at it aggressively, that can mean there is a vitamin deficiency in that area.

So I put out a deer cocaine block in December. They still haven’t touched it.

I doubt they will until spring green-up starts.

I put out trace mineral blocks and they stomp a mudhole in the ground getting after it. Usually put out in the spring.

I thought salt levels this high just caused deer to urinate (flush) most of the minerals they consumed.
This is what came from the old QDMA website... The prices are probably outdated.
Dicalcium Phosphate - #50 - $20.10
Plain Stock Salt - #50 - $4.30
12/12 Trace Mineral - #100 - $35.20
TOTAL - #200 - $59.60

I suppose they benefit from all the ingredients you listed, but the number 1 thing lacking in an herbivores diet is sodium. So I’m pretty sure the more salt the better.
I used to have a hook up for free “blemished” red mineral blocks, but that dried up. Now we just buy bags of pool salt and pour in the mud holes they made from years of licking the blocks. They drink the salty water and eat the dirt.
They usually hit it hard all summer until about the end of October.

wait till March, get a bag of white salt and bag of red salt from Tractor supply. Couple tubs of DiCal Phosphate. Mix well and pour deer cane juice all over it so the deer will find it sooner than later.

That’s the only mineral I put out is the red/browninsh cheap 50# blocks from tractor supply or feed store. Deer in our area absolutely tear them up all summer into fall when it starts cooling off. Especially bucks.

Same. Hogs will come get them too. Throw some molasses all over them.

Have you ever put out the cattle syrup tubs from Tractor Supply?

I have not but if someone has and deer hit it then I’d put one out.
Now you got me wanting to try it.

If the minerals are like salt blocks or something similar that dissolves I would put them out now. The minerals are not going to evaporate or degrade, only dissolve into the ground/stump around it. Deer will go to it when they need it.
I think its cheap enough to leave out year round and replenish as its gone.

Don't buy any of the crap at Walmart.
Trophy Rock or Apple Crush, I wasted my money on these .
The coons wouldn't even it it

Do mine from March - August.
6 cups of trace minerals
6 cups of Mix-N-Fine Salt
3 cups of Di-Cal Phosphate
30-06 block from Imperial Whitetail on top of all them Preferably on stumps. Deer destroy it.

I've never tried it but have thought about it. They'd probably kill it once they get a lick.
