I really hope these folks are not going to have any trouble being absorbed into private sector. Every once in a while I will see a news story of a fired fed employee struggling to find a white collar job for 6+months.

Anyone here know anyone who was part of these job cuts who is still out of work?

Private sector being flooded by H1B.

It’s not rocket science. Trump got rid of one problem (illegals) for a new problem (H1B) that quite frankly is worse.

The middle class tax base is being replaced by people who don’t care about America in general.

Sadly I'm in this boat. It's been a struggle. Two different companies brought me all the way through the hiring process just to tell me at the last minute I couldn't bring my therapy goose into the office.

Natural resource folks had issues. Biologists, ecologists, etc.

Some went to State jobs that pay awful (looking at you Louisiana). Some went into the private/consulting world. Some just switched fields altogether with the hope that when the govt swings back to Dems that more of those type of Fed jobs will open up.

Most people I know that left the private sector to get big times roles in state, local, or federal government were people that couldn’t cut it in the private sector or weren’t promotable.

Yeah clerical and/or administrative positions usually are the ones that cant cut it. Some of the technical positions too (IT, certain types of science jobs)

Private sector may not have the capacity for them unfortunately.

Have had several apply where I work. A few had interviews. No one hired.

No one in the private sector wants a federal employee who is used to not producing value to justify their job existence. It’s just not in their DNA. And they bitch and moan about everything bringing a very union like mentality to work.

Maybe a lower level staffer who isn’t responsible for much and only works 9-5 anyway, but NO ONE with any real responsibility to get shite done.

With just around 500,000 total H1B holders as of 2025, how are they flooding anything?

20million >>>> 500,000

Didn't even need my degree for that problem.

Now we need to decentralize all the federal workers from the DC/Virginia area. Spread some of the department headquarters out around the country.

In my experience, coming from the engineering world that has lots of these professionals employed, if a person has been fully career raised in the government world then they cant hack consulting (engineers included). There are pleasant surprises but for the most part cant keep up with client timelines.

The ones who can actually do work won't. Many will struggle in a merit-based employment environment.

Even the dumb ones can pick ag. I hear there are a lot of openings in that industry recently.

It’s messed up when i see things how people with masters degrees and even double masters that had a federal job will go through one of those government situations where an office shuts down and they are out of work and spend 6 months to a year trying to find a job.

That’s insane.

Why is spending increasing, then? FY26 is projected to be a bigger deficit than FY25. Where is the money going?

If you can't understand the problem with outsourcing our middle class, then there's not much hope for you.

The younger generations are already dealing with increased college tuition, higher housing cost, generalized inflation, sky high health insurance, increased car prices, and now a decreased STEM job market. All of those problems are directly tied to governmental policy decisions.
