Britney Spears has sold the rights to her iconic music catalog, multiple sources confirmed to Rolling Stone.
Primary Wave will now take over Spears’ ownership share of her many hit songs, including “… Baby One More Time,” “Oops! … I Did It Again,” “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Lucky,” “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” among many others.
It is not clear how much Spears sold her rights for, but a source told the outlet it was on par with Justin Bieber’s reported $200 million deal to sell his back catalog...

None of them are getting a billion like The Weeknd did because they didn't write a lot of their own music like he did.

When somebody sells their music rights for that kinda money, how do the people that bought the music get all that money back? Or make profit

License it out for movies, commercials etc. Also streaming money.

License it for use more than what the artist was doing. It will now be more widely available for shows, movies, streaming, social media use, etc

In 1985 Michael Jackson bought the rights to the Beatles music for like $45M. That would be like $130M today. So Britney's music is worth more than the Beatles music.. Interesting.

i suppose theres a lot more ways to make money off of the music than back then. beatles catalog is valued at like 1.5 billion. "Sony acquired full control of the publishing rights in 2016 by purchasing the Michael Jackson estate's 50% stake for $750 million."

The Weeknd didn't sell his catalog, it's more like a partnership where he retains ownership, including masters, and he retains creative control. Future music releases also remain his.

Is it really? That's insane. I was just going by what was paid in 1985. So MJ's estate included the rights to his music as well?
