This is probably gonna put a damper on his chances at getting any in Olympic village

I mean, that's at least a display of real integrity. If you're trying to change yourself I can't think of a better way than to bare it all in a moment where you would expect the highest praise of your life.
I hate disloyalty and find it disgusting. But this is what I would want to see from someone who was disloyal.
ETA: when we cancel people (and this guy deserves scorn), don't we want them to change? For something like cheating on a non-spouse (again, terrible), this is basically what I would want to see from someone who cares about honor.
