Looks like no casinos in TX for the foreseeable future

Why would the Adelsons sell the Mavs just two years after buying the team? Because casino gambling is not coming to Texas anytime soon, and the only reason the Adelsons bought the Mavs was to serve as the anchor of a massive new casino-resort-arena. But they misread the Texas Legislature, and despite tens of millions of dollars in political donations and lobbyist fees, casino gambling is no closer to coming to Texas than the day the Adelsons bought the team. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is overwhelmingly likely to be reelected this November, and gambling will not pass the Texas Senate so long as he leads it. That means the earliest gambling could be legalized in Texas is the January-May 2031 Legislative session. But what needs to happen by September 2031? The Mavs new arena to replace the AAC needs to open. In other words, the timing just doesn’t work for the Adelsons casino-resort-arena plan, so they are now open to selling the team.

Too hard to commit return fraud at a casino?

Probably worse than casinos
At least casinos provide jobs

This means Lake Charles gets to survive for a few more years

Don’t forget the Shreveport in NW Louisiana that even Epstein’s attorney called a s—hole.

Gambling attracts massive amounts of money and taxes to STATE. But it also attracts bad things as well. I say good for Texas. Maybe Louisiana should take notes.

I bet Louisiana has a good bit of abstract and concrete influence in Texas not allowing casinos.

The bad outweighs the good.

And neighboring La. breathes a big sigh of relief for the continuation of some of that Texas money coming in their coffers.

From what I’ve seen, unless you live in a border city (LC and Shreveport) local casinos just pull from the local population and economy and are full of complete local trash. Increasing crime and homelessness.
I haven’t been in years and last time was to pull a buddy out, but walk into the Belle of Baton Rouge on a Wednesday night and tell me that it’s good for the city.

The Choctaws and Chickasaws spend a fortune lobbying Texas politicians. I live in Choctaw Territory somewhat close to the Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK and they cater to the north Texas crowd.

Online sports gambling is by far the bigger evil in this equation. I wish it would go away, I’m sick of it being thrown in my face constantly. I’ve seen a lot of people throw a shite load of money away because they can sit on their couch and place bets and play slots. At least before they had to get off their arse to do it. It’s wayyyyy too easy for people to get addicted and lose all their money. It’s a net negative thing by a lot.

I read something that LA pulls in billions in gambling revenue on Texans alone. Every other surrounding state is similar. Lobbyists are probably pouring money in to keep it illegal.

I'm guessing Timan Fertitta also is lobbying hard to keep LC viable. Although I would think he would just recreate it in Galveston if he had the chance.
