So what is your lighter of choice to bring on an airplane that will not get you in hot water? Bic? Please tell me there is something better than that so the TSA overlords will not go into overdrive.

I was going to commend you for specifying the “fly commercially” thing but someone beat me to it.

I fly a LOT for work and the only rule is there are no rules. What sails through TSA fifty times won’t make it on trip 51. Bring something you expect them to take at some point. Because they will.

I carried wood matches for a long time but then they banned Strike Anywhere matches. Hard to find regular wood matches. I would try those and a cheapo Amazon cigar lighter. Bury them in your carry on and just smile if they seize them. Arguing will get you no where.

This is the OT- buy a lighter at your destination and don't bring it back with you. Or be ok if TSA throws it out.

This would be my advice.
Cigar accoutrements sellers do sell a type of TSA-acceptable carrier for lighters.

I have been smoking cigars for about 40 years and have yet to find a torch that was worth a shite. Ive tried them all and the only one good I have ever had is a tabletop lighter that worked for years. With that in mind I don't carry a torch....I either use the cigar shops or the lounge or if I am not at either place I buy a bic and live with the hardship. Life is full of trials and tribulations, in the overall scheme of things lighting a cigar with a bic lighter is pretty trivial.....

You can get a decent disposable torch at most convenience stores if you just cant stoop to the shame and indignity of lighting up with a bic. Crack addicts are a demanding demographic.....

Yes, yes they are. I had one torch that lasted over 15 years. Almost every other one crapped out on me after the first refill. I now use either a Zippo, matches, or someone else's working torch.

I light my cigars by having my latina maid burn $100 bills. I'm not sure what lighter she uses.

couple things...
1. I knew a guy who had his favorite Zippo taken
2. If there is absolutely no way you could part with it, just plan on buying something wherever you're going to use while you're there.
3. You can always use matches (they were used long before lighters were invented).
4. Don't smoke (not an option)

Call your concierge and have them have a decent one waiting for you.

I just leave my Bic in my pocket when I go through detectors. A cigar cutter in the shape of a .38 round did not make it through though.

I typically purchase cigars wherever I’m flying to, and grab some of those long, wooden matches while I’m there…

Pack some gum or an approved vape pen, trying to smuggle a lighter past a gropey feller that barely graduated high school isn't wise.

I’ve carried torch lighters in my carry-on many times with no issues until this female TSA agent at BTR made me throw away two of them. Since then, I have a four pack of Bic lighters and matches in my bag.

It’s frustrating that you can fly many times over a decade with no incidents, and the TSA doesn’t make exceptions for travelers with safe histories…

Traditional Zippo’s are allowed, but never underestimate the incompetence of TSA. Half the time they don’t know if something is actually approved or not.

Anything you bring assume they will confiscate it. So the cheapest and easiest thing to do is just modify a normal Bic lighters

the worst thing I ever brought on an airplane was hot hands. The Chinese Peoples Police were very concerned and I spent a long time in a room in the chongqing airport

Last time I flew to Cali, when I used to smoke, NOLA TSA made me throw away my lighter. Heading back to New Orleans LAX TSA could not have given a shite less.
