Leave your front door open for an hour and find out....
ETA: I'm ripping off some comedian from the 1990's who's name I can't remember. This was his joke aimed at people who had pets (furbabies today) but not kids...

I could leave my front door open and he will go out and sniff around but then he MIGHT stay on the porch but more than likely will be back inside within 15 min

Yes my dumb dogs are dumb enough to mindlessly love me

I had a dog who used to escape the back yard to run around the front door and wait to get back inside.

Nice try Mr. Burglar. I live in Baton Rouge and this would be very foolish for me to do. But I can assure you my dog does love me.

I have a dog I found who has to be touching me at all times. If I open a car door she tries to jump in. But, given the opportunity, she’ll bolt into the woods and chase shite for hours. Then just comes back and hangs in the yard. I would just let her roam but I’ve gotten calls from quite far away when she decided to play with some goats and pigs.

My dog wants to run out because she is usually under our control 24/7. I've had to run her down a half dozen times before she gets to the road and deals with something she's never known from outside a moving car. A moving vehicle.
I have a new pup. We are concentrating on training her for recall.

I walk my dogs every morning. My neighborhood is a 1 mile loop. My old lab (RIP) would make the loop without me in about 15 minutes if I didn't go with him. You could use him as a timer he was so consistent with it. On nice winter days he would be left out and wouldn't budge off of the front steps until I got home from work in the evening.
My current lab doesn't go far but typically goes bark at the neighbor's cats for 10 minutes and then comes home.

Yes, they love their owners. Ever seen one abandoned? It destroys their souls to lose their human.

Unfortunately, I have.
Charlotte NC. Semi-sketchy part of town. Car stops. Door opens. Dog out. Car takes off. The look on the pups face and watching it chase after the car when it was speeding away was heartbreaking.

To be fair, my toddlers would also make a run for it if the door were left open.

If I go into the front yard and let my dogs out they will run around, but keep me in sight. If I go in, one of them will follow me, the other one will run around.. I have to ignore her.. then she will come running back.
They got it made at home they are not going anywhere.

I don’t think dogs emote so love? No. Recognize this as home and me as the feeder? Yes.
I can leave both doors open as long as I want and my dogs don’t leave. They may go outside and lay in the grass in the sun, but they don’t leave.

My dog would step outside assuming we were going on a walk. When I didn’t follow, he would come right back inside.
I could never close another door and never put him on a leash for the rest of his life (he’s 4) and he wouldn’t get more than fifty feet away from me unless forced to.

Whenever my dog “escapes” she just runs and lays by the back or front door.
My mother left her out there a half hour once!

We have empirically verified that dogs have the forebrain to form meaningful, relational bonds with humans. They’re social creatures. But their version of “love” is different than what a human might understand.

Sally loves me... but yeah, she'd probably go on a walkabout if I left the door open.
