Or do you pretend it's good and not tell them it's skunk water?

If it's my neighbor 3 doors down, you say yes every time.

I know some legit guys with thousands of dollars worth of equipment I would gladly take a beer from

What is the truth? I really liked many of the home brews they offer at the Zapps beer fest.
I've guessing you did not like the ones you tried?

Most home brews I've had are legit. Sorry your neighbor sucks... but to answer your question, yes I'm honest, and they appreciate criticism and feedback. Usually they're already aware of the flaws.

That I don't drink? Yes, I do.

Don't tell him it tastes like skunk.. say, "That's decent but it's missing ____", IF they're looking for honest feedback and I imagine they are.
Or, ask them what THEY think of it first.
You can totally be honest and tactful.

Depends. Is it a social situation? I'll probably just smile and drink. Any man that offers another man a beer is alright in my book, especially one they labored over.
If they ask me what I think, they know I'll tel them.

I had a battalion commander who was into the whole home brewing thing. One time at a battalion cookout, he brought a number of jugs of his beer. He told us all to enjoy it but warned us to “be careful not to drink the stuff that had settled to the bottom”.
Thankfully I had CQ that night, so I had a perfect excuse to stick with Coca-Cola.

I've had some I didnt like but the majority of the homebrews I've tried have been good or great.

If you don’t care for it, just say that.
Honesty is ok.

Micro-breweries do a good job sometimes with homemade brews.

My neighbors have brought me good beer

Before or after you blow out your britches?

Truth always… maybe they can adjust

Depend on whether you wanna blow your connection when:
a.) When deliveries suddenly stop at liquor stores, cuz "lockdowns" or "supply chain" SNAFUs
b.) A bottle even of Bud Light costs $350 in silver or gold
c.) Your generous brewer expands into the moonshine biz
Can you say, "Howdy, pardner! Mighty fine day to share to share a tasty home-crafted brewski with my ol' bud!"
