Apparently in the future data will be processed at solar-powered, orbital data centers.

Both Musk and the Chi Coms are seriously working on this and devoting billions of dollars to it which leads me to believe it is a real thing and probably going to happen. What a crazy time we are living in. LINK

China plans to launch space-based artificial intelligence data centres over the next five years, state media reported on Thursday, a challenge to Elon Musk’s plan to deploy SpaceX data centres to the heavens.
China's main space contractor, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), vowed to "construct gigawatt-class space digital-intelligence infrastructure," according to a five-year development plan that was cited by state broadcaster CCTV.

"It's a no-brainer building solar-power data centers in space ... the lowest-cost place to put AI will be space and that will be true within two years, three at the latest," Musk said.
He said solar generation in orbit can produce five times more power than panels on the ground.
China also plans to shift the energy-intensive burden of AI processing into orbit, utilising "gigawatt-class" solar-powered hubs to create an industrial-scale "Space Cloud" by 2030, according to a December CASC policy document.
The document identifies the integration of space-based solar power with AI computing as a core pillar of the upcoming 15th Five Year Plan, China's economic development roadmap.

We will be a fully solar powered world as soon as we figure out how to harness and store it efficiently. It's the ultimate renewable energy.

Is nuclear not better and renewable?

Add anywhere from 3-6 years to most of his predictions and you might be right

It's only better currently because, when it comes to solar, we can't "figure out how to harness and store it efficiently". If we can manage that, it's hard to argue that creating our own fission reactions is in any way better than simply capturing the energy created by the fusion reactions the sun is already doing for us.

If it is possible for these celestial data centers to orbit at a speed that would keep them in the shaded/dark side of earth at all times, wouldn't that solve the cooling issue that make data centers high electricity and water consumers? -250f on the shaded side should keep things nice and cool. +250f on the sunny side, not so much.

Not even your land is worth anything when they own the sky too.

They said ultimate. He said naw. He said expound.
This makes sense for a data center using it in space. It doesn’t make sense for the other 99% of electricity usage. Can’t be ultimate only serving one function.

My company has a good deal to do with these new data centers here on earth and it's becoming quite an industry. The infrastructure alone is insane. Kind of bizarre to build so much down here when they'll be in orbit before long.

Are you incapable of having a conversation within the context that it's framed?

It's a massive ball of nuclear fusion and will be showering us with enough power to run the globe every second for the next 4 billion years.
