Do we have any basketball insiders on this board?

If so, what are you hearing?

Tonight feels like a new low point in the program.

Will Wade is 60% chance our coach next season. Some dudes need the 1-800.

Will let CMM finish season. Potential targets include Bruce Pearl, Will Wade, and Chris Beard. I'd be surprised if if goes past one of those three, but would expect some looks at G5 coaches.

Eta im hearing we could potentially guarantee the new HC 12.5/yr for the roster.

Even if LSU went after WW, why would he come back to LSU? Honest question - what makes you think WW would even consider leaving NC State to come back?

Why would he consider it? Money for one. An extremely close relationship with the University President for another. I don’t know if he’ll do it but it’s pretty obvious why he’d consider it.

Not saying I 100% believe it but have seen multiple people on here and On3 claiming he isn’t happy at NC State and has interest in coming back to LSU now that Woodward is gone. He would want some NIL and facility guarantees but apparently that won’t be an issue.

I know the MBB lovers probably want more but that would actually be impressive after what was just pumped into football. I'm sure Verge is worried about donor fatigue. We need Lane to make some noise next year to keep the $$ flowing for all of the sports. When football does well everybody eats.

Promising a new HC 12.5/yr for a roster (which is what every candidate is going to demand) is entirely different than actually having or raising 12.5/yr to spend on a roster. Where do you think the extra 10m (above the 2.7m revenue share) is going to come from??

LSU basketball ain’t LSU football. Sure it’s more fun when LSU basketball is winning, but no one cares enough about LSU bball to make this level of “investment.”

Personally I would rather see Jay get his indoor facility before we start pumping money into basketball.

And spare me the revenue generation argument. Jay has earned this and needs to be first in line for program upgrades

I want CJJ to be happy too, but who says it is an either/or situation?

The "sports wars" need to end. Hurting one program to help another isn't the way. We need to work to be competitive in all sports.

And I guess you know this but the donors writing the checks with all of those zeros actually get some say in where the money goes.

Hire whoever can make the program self sustaining and won't whine about facility upgrades.

LSU has a long list of crap to upgrade before you get to the PMAC.

What is this about?

Men’s basketball is the only program besides football that is self sustaining and actually makes money.

What?

Men’s basketball makes money.

They and football should get everything they need.

What is “the revenue generation argument” you’re referring to?

LSU MBB receives ~2.7mil in revenue share for its roster. If LSU is going to promise a new HC 12.5mil for its roster. The other 10mil is going to have to come from somewhere other than LSU athletics.

Personally, I think that MBB’s 2.7mil in revenue share should be redirected entirely to JJ and LSU baseball. The hell with MBB. They make money whether they’re undefeated in SEC play and make the tourney or winless.

Once kim retires we need to take that $3m and direct it towards mens basketball. Hire a womens coach for $100k and lets move on to sports that dont bleed money

Hope you’re right. And I hope WW trusts Verge and doesn’t put much into Verge’s involvement in the decision to fire hire. I’ll ride with WW again. He’s the only candidate out there that I think could generate some fans to put up the money towards a competitive roster. But I just wonder why a coach in his first year of a 6-year $17m contract at a school on the verge of making the NCAA tourney would leave to return to LSU. I think we’d have to make him a big arse offer he couldn’t refuse, and not sure LSU is prepared to do that for MBB, especially after FB buyouts and promises of 25mil + for FB roster.

You lost me. I’m not making any argument about revenue generation or revenue share. I’m stating facts. Do you not buy that LSU MBB currently receives $2.7 million of the school’s $20.5 million revenue share (15%) while LSU baseball receives no where near that amount? Or do you not buy that LSU MBB makes money regardless of whether they win or not?
