For me, it’s pull for the Tigers every game but don’t get my hopes up. Try not to engage the trolls too much. Baseball is right around the corner and I’m at a WBB game right now

Not saying I 100% believe it but have seen multiple people on here and On3 claiming he isn’t happy at NC State and has interest in coming back to LSU now that Woodward is gone. He would want some NIL and facility guarantees but apparently that won’t be an issue.
We would have to pay Wade's buyout of $5M, plus CMM's and his staff of about $10M, plus match or exceed Wade's potential salary of $4.3M/year, and at least maintain our NIL. That would be nearly $25M for the basketball program next year rather than less than $9M if we kept CMM. We just spent a fortune on the football program, so I don't believe we're going to spend that much next year on the basketball program. We could double the NIL and only spend about 12M next year with CMM. That would probably be one of the highest NILs in the SEC, so we would probably have better talent than most, and even CMM could win.

So your point is:
Instead of investing 25 million into rebuilding the hoops program, you'd rather take 12 million dollars and light it on fire?
Idk Lap I think we should just get a good coach. The last guy was good enough just get someone of equal or greater value!

So Bruce Pearl retired from a final 4 team playing in front of sold out crowds every night to only come coach LSU?
He has a weekly show with a station I listen to, and he said he’s living his best life. He sits court side every game to watch his son coach and gets to see his grandkids every day.
Dude is 65 and wants to get into politics

1. His buyout drops to $3M after April 1.
2. MM's buyout will be ~$6.5M. But it is NOT due in a lump sum. It's due in installments over the remaining years of his contract term....which comes out to appox $2M annually.
3. Wade's average annual salary is $2.9. If LSU wanted to hire him they could insert incentives/bonuses in the contract just like NC State. It wouldn't necessarily take a $4.3M base salary to entice him.
So let's do the real math with firing MM.
$2M - MM buyout
$2M - staff buyout (estimated)
$3M - Wade buyout after 4/1
$4M - Wade year 1 salary (let's be generous with the offer)
That comes out to $11M next season...not $25M
If you keep MM you are still going to have to pay his salary ($3M) + staff ($2M) + NIL. ALL for a guy who has proven to EVERYONE except, a delusional few that he can't win in this league. How many more games does one need to see?
Then you fire him at the end of next year. GREAT! You're still going to have to pay his buyout, the staff's buyout, and hire a new HC (presumably paying his buy out to do so)
LSU isn't saving much by waiting another year to fire McMahon. Instead, they are just kicking the can down the road before doing the inevitable. THIS is the kick the can down the road year.

Every time we reach the point where you think every excuse has been exhausted...we see someone pop up with a "well, if we just do this, or just do that, he could win". For the third season in 4 years he has started SEC play 1-7. There is not a single LSU coach in the last 60 years, maybe ever, who has performed so poorly, yet still managed to gather a loyal legion that is convinced greatness is just around the corner and the abhorrently poor record is somehow everyone else's fault.

If we have the money, I'd prefer to rebuild the program with the best coach we can afford, but my contention is that if we have to pay CMM's buyout, we're going to be worse next year. I also contend that with superior talent, CMM will win. The NIL was increased this year, but not enough to get superior talent than other SEC teams. It's about making the prudent decision until the buyout doesn't truly light the program on fire.

I hate to break it to you, but you're already at rock bottom with MM. There isn't much of level "worse", if any to get to.

So you want to ignore 4 years of data base a multi-million dollar decision on just sheer hope? The flaw in your logic is believing the bullshite that LSU is spending significantly less than the rest of the league. I had a discussion not too long ago with a booster who was adamant the NIL spent on this year's team is in the $10M range in response to my (and your) argument it wasn't that high...or anywhere close. And this is someone who is a MM supporter.
In the offseason, so many of the MM supporters said he finally had the funds to compete. Now, like clockwork, the losses continue to pile up again and the "we have no money" excuse is back.
LSU made a bad coaching hire. It happens. Not just to LSU. To many schools. Every year. Throwing MORE money at a problem rarely works. LSU has busted 4x now. Stop triple mortgaging your home in hopes you're going to hit on the 5th..or 6th...or 7th hand. WALK AWAY

It was a bad idea to give CMM a 7 year contract, but that's the reality. If it was my money, I wouldn't pay the $10M buyout. I would use that money to get the best talent, and I would still save millions.
Posted on 1/30/26 at 10:27 am to Lapaz
The real way to save money is to win.

Good grief. I hope you don’t work in business.

I think your business would fail if you spent frivolously. The prudent business question is would an extra $5M in NIL be enough for CMM to win, while still saving $5M, or do we need to spend $10M more to get a better coach at the same NIL? If $5M more leads to lots of winning, then that will make money. Will $10M more at the same NIL lead to as many wins? I doubt it. It may lead to more wins than we're getting now, but I doubt the difference would justify the extra $10M.
