NBA Trade Deadline 3PM ET Feb 5th
Posted on 1/27/26 at 12:14 pm

Just wanted to recap some key points on this years deadline as it pertains to the Pelicans and the league.
The Pelicans are up against the tax, so we aren't making any trades where we take back anything more than we are sending out.
NBA Teams with salary cap space:
Nets $15.2M
Jazz $10.5M
The Jazz also have $18M in a trade exception and can use all of it to take on even more salary after the first $10.5m is used and still be well under the luxury tax.
Here are teams that have trade exceptions and the ability to take on salary and stay under the tax (these guys are important b/c teams are going to have to dump salaries or players to make certain trades work):
Bulls $6.2M
Pistons $14.1M
Kings have two $2M ones and a $5M one but they only have $3.5M space to use up under the tax
Wizards $9.9M and $13.5M, and they can use all of both of them.
Teams who are just over the tax and are going to want to get under it.
The payout is around $14M for non-taxpaying teams.
Nuggets $402K ( I could see them using a trade exception of $5 or $6M and staying under the 1st apron)
Suns $237K
Raptors $1M
Magic $5.5M (Tyus Jones $7M)
Rockets $6.8M (Finney-Smith $13M)
Lakers $7M (Vincent $11M, Kleber $11M, Ayton $8M)
76ers $7M (Oubre $8M, Grimes $8.7M)
Clippers $7M (Derrick Jones Jr $10M, Lopez $8.7M)
Teams that can get under the 1st apron:
Celtics $4M (The Celtics can make a trade where they take back $4M less, and it saves them almost $20M)
Mavs $9M (Caleb Martin $9.5M, Naji $9M)
Wolves $7M (Conley $10.7M)
The Cavs are looking at a $163M tax penalty b/c they are $40M over the tax, and $20M over the 2nd apron. Giving $10M Lonzo away saves them $60M. My Missi for Jarrett Allen trade saves them over $100M (with Poole or Zion going to the Nets).
BIg name guys who could possibly be on the move
Giannis had enough of cold arse Milwaukee 2/$120M left
Anthony Bitch Davis 2/$120M left
Ja the wannabe thug Moront 2/$87M left
Michael i just shoot 3's Porter JR. 2/$79M left
Twig Porzingis - expiring
Anfernee why nobody want me Simons - expiring
Fatass 2/$87M left, mostly unguaranteed
Every old dude on the Kings and Bulls

Has there been any trades yet?!?! I honestly can’t remember from all the rumors and hypotheticals lol.

No. Just the Trae Young deal.
I don’t think many teams are willing to give up firsts, and I think a lot are kind of content right now and are more interested in making moves this offseason.

What can we fetch for Dumars?
Posted on 1/27/26 at 10:35 pm to Patfic15
6 pack of Heineken and a joint

We have no real reason to trade until the offseason unless the offer is just too good to pass up and we know the Pels don’t get those deals. I would like to see this iteration of the team play out the season. If we can play near .500 ball the last half of the year then you might have some type of light at the end of the tunnel. Love the way Z and Missi are playing.

Because of our draft situation, I would dispatch my scouting team to Europe in search of low-cost, unheralded, sharp shooters, who know and understand the game.

If Poole is still on this team Feb 6th, the city of NOLA needs to riot.

I am pretty convinced we make more than one move, but I am not sure I see a blockbuster involving Zion, Herb, or Trey until this offseason

So you’re cool with attaching picks to get rid of him?

I’m happy to the Pels are doing something right about trying to trade Missi for a first round pick during the deadline. Also, that they know they can wait until the draft and trade him for one in the late teens-20’s. I’m surprised!!

So is the goal to trade Missi, for a pick that if we get really really lucky, is as good as Missi? Is that the plan?
Posted on 1/28/26 at 11:57 am to PELsu
My big fear is that we want a 2026 first so badly, so that we can then trade our 2027 pick and avoid the Stepien rule. That would be catastrophic
Posted on 1/28/26 at 12:12 pm to PELsu
It's more likely they need the pick to move one of the anchors.

I seriously doubt we can move Murray without him playing. He'd have to show teams he's perfectly fine before they made a trade for him.
Think about what Toronto did last year with BI. They had no interest in him playing that year and the trade was all about this year, which is paying off for them.
The Pacers and Celtics are in similar situations, although the Celtics are actually winning.
Could they be a potential suitor in a Murray for Simons swap? If Murray returns to himself, that's a big time upgrade for them.
