The show House Hunters needs to have some type of viewers discretion warning after each commercial break to remind people, especially young adults, that it isn’t normal to be 30 years old, have Hollywood looks, and a $2M home budget that you are able to exceed by $400K. I wonder if people would watch a more realistic version of young families choosing between $200K houses. I’m not a regular viewer but occasionally pause while channel surfing because some of the houses are cool. Maybe I wouldn’t pause if Johnny and Stacy were choosing between a double wide or older fixer upper.

It’s rasslin for white womens, you have to suspend reality which is typically easy for that gender.

What do you mean that a stay at home dog mom and a part time elementary school art teacher shouldn't have a $1.5 million budget...?

It’s the only hgtv show I watch

My mom and I watch it and compete with each other to guess which house they pick

I shite you not a couple was looking for a house in Seattle. The wife taught AP art for a high school and the husband taught music at the same school. Their budget was 750k.

My preferred example is "she's a part-time chihuahua walker, he's a bespoke artisan salamander farmer, their budget is $5million"

House Hunters

It reminds me Home Extreme Makeover. At the beginning they would build normal for these people that went thru tough times in life. As it gradually went on they were building millionaire homes and pools for these people who don't make 50k a year and couldn't afford it

The worst part is that EVERY show the couple has completely opposite wants. He wants a historic farm house on 10 acres, she wants a modern condo in the heart of the city. The formula for these shows get very old, very quickly.

Easier to be a whore that way.

I will occasionally get hooked on House Hunters International, which seems more realistic. Americans want to move to Amsterdam, have big closets, be close to bars, and have an elevator, for instance, and the agents always say things like, what you want is 3x of the budget you gave me, so here's a compromise.

Overall, I think all reality TV (Kardashians, Selling the OC, etc.) all give particularly women horrible expectations about wealth and expectations. The ship has sailed.

Some acquaintances were on the show. They had already purchased the house, so the entire "hunt" was fabricated. They were also instructed to play up the friction/disagreements for TV

There's one of these shows, maybe it's the Zombie one , that is very comical. They are clearly distressing properties for drama. One house had graffiti and old tires in the living room.

That “Love it or List it” show used to film a ton where I live (knew a couple on the show). It’s just like all the other ones, but I seem to remember much more realistic scenarios from that show.

Of course they've already closed on a property before being on the show. Who in their right mind would let a realtor show them 3 properties and be forced to choose one of the three.

That’s just for entertainment. They already have the house before they even start filming.
