Dabo Swinney unleashed a lengthy and scathing rebuke of the current state of college football on Friday, including directly accusing Ole Miss and first-year head coach Pete Golding of tampering after Cal transfer linebacker Luke Ferrelli flipped his commitment from Clemson to the Rebels on Thursday.
During what devolved into a nearly two-hour press conference Friday afternoon, Swinney touched on a litany of topics, including introducing new-and-former Tigers offensive coordinator Chad Morris. But over the final 30 minutes, Swinney attacked college football’s untenable calendar that resulted in one of the wildest in-season coaching carousels on record and led to an even crazier two-week transfer portal window in the heart of the College Football Playoff.

I think the current portal date was in large part trying to allow the transfer student the ability to enroll in the spring semester. Problem is it doesn’t work.

I like that they wouldn’t be able to enroll in spring. There should honestly be SOME kind of inconvenience to annually jumping from school to school. Not being able to just bolt from a season into another schools spring practice may actually cause a bit less jumping organically.

The calendar move is a no brainer. I like the 18 OTAs as well as it guarantees work with the new class without the pressure to enroll for the current schedule.

Every opportunity I get, I correct people that are shitting on Kiffin to be shitting on the calendar/NCAA.

Kiffin managed to switch jobs, build a full staff while half of it was still at the old job, manage to close with a good hs recruiting class, then hit a grand slam home run in the portal while the media (yahoo sports) and the u of miss admin was on his arse trying to sabotage him.
He’s done an amazing job and I cannot wait to see a well coached offense for a change.

He's right about the calendar. They should also move high school signing period back to just one in the mid-spring.

I agree with some of his points, but I don’t think he is the best messenger. He whines SO much and is unparalleled in playing the CFB martyr. I did watch his press conference, the contact from Pete was pretty egregious.

Adapt or die. That is how it works in any business. Some are products of their environment and can only function in that specific environment. Others are more chameleon types and can adapt to new circumstances. Saban was a master of doing that. It appears that Dabo is not. Miles also wasn’t able to do that either. NIL has been around for multiple years now and Dabo should have accepted reality or gotten out of coaching. He did neither and complains about it.
