Would Lamar Brown offer more immediate value on the OL rather than DL/DE?

He played LT in high school and was rated 5* on both OL & DL.

You can generally play earlier on the DL because it's more talent and instinct. OL takes more times to learn.

Ask me a couple of weeks ago? Absolutely

Now? I think we are good, even without JS

I don't think we have a left tackle on the roster without Seaton.

So, yes. If he's a legitimate LT, that's where I'd play him (assuming Seaton doesn't sign)

Seaton is bonus at this point... we have a pretty stellar team as it sits right now.

Would be a great pickup, love to have him, but we are playoff caliber right now, with what we have in house, provided it jells and is coached up.

Where in the NFL will he make the most money, LT or DE? Both are high money positions. Where does he want to play?

Yes he would. If he had enrolled early and went through conditioning and spring practice I would be confident that he would be pushing for a spot on the oline

Solomon Thomas has position flexibility and was the #2 IOL coming out of HS. He also played LT. If he's healthy he could be an option.
Scouting report:
quote:

Advanced offensive line prospect with some position flexibility that's built to play in an offensive system that’s heavy on gap and inside-zone concepts. Looks ready to play with a barrel-chested build that measures in at just under 6-foot-4, 315 pounds. Spent much of junior season working at left tackle, before repping primarily at left guard early on during senior season. Excels at pinning and pulling as he’s frequently in tune and in control of his body. Solid as a combo blocker and has the brute strength to displace assignments as a down blocker. Likes to finish with authority and will put defenders in the ground when he gets a chance. Has had his moments in pass pro over the years, but likely lacks foot quickness to handle the hot corner at the game’s highest levels. Still, has proven to be rather effective in tight quarters on passing downs with a formidable punch and sound hand placement. Projects as a potential multi-year starter for a Power Four program that can play three or four different spots up front, including center. Might need a year or two to adjust to the speed and physicality of the collegiate game, but appears to be ahead of the curve and will have a chance to eventually emerge as an NFL Draft pick if he can keep progressing and avoid setbacks.

On average, both positions avg. approx $10+ million a year.

However elite EDGE (Micah Parson $46M) top salaries can make more than elite LTs (Tristan Wirf $28M)

If we don’t land Seaton and they don’t think feel very comfortable with Thompkins or Harper at LT then absolutely.

He had a talk with Davey and said he would play wherever they need him to play. He just wants to play.

This year's OL, even if we get Seaton, will offer guys opportunities to battle for PT. I'd say at least 3 spots are up for grab... 4 w/o Seaton.

I thought I read where evaluators and scouts say he's better on the OL, but versatile enough to be elite in either side of the ball.

IMHO, he's probably best as an OL, but not far off as a DT. He's looking to play as a true outside DE from my understanding, which he could be great at as well, but I think he's best on the inside.

The only guy I've seen make a good transition from DT to DE/ EDGE was Michigan's Rashan Gary who went to Green Bay.

With all that said, I think he could push for a starting spot easier on the OL, but DL rotate way more often which could give him more PT as a back up.

I agree with you but more times than none most OL dont have that dog and high motor to excel on the DL. Now an elite DL can sure enough play OL if he has the size. Every once in awhile you get a Lamar Brown thats just a special player with that size.

They have enough dog to block them successfully on most plays but not enough dog to play their position? Gotcha.

The fact we won't be running Joe Sloan's shitty offense next year makes me think any two of Davis, Tompkins, Harper, Sprinkle, Strey, Thomas could compete and have two serviceable tackles.
You obviously prefer Seaton, but I'm not sure the cupboard is as bare as people think it is. New coaches, new schemes, new talent...patience.

6'4" 285lb in HS is one thing. Playing LT in college, he'd have to gain 20lbs minimum.

OL is not good enough to win the SEC at this point we need Seaton

He offers more immediate value being on the field vs. sideline.

That said, he is good enough that he can play whichever he wants to, so if he wants to stay at DL, then let him stay there and put all energy and focus into being a nightmare for opposing offenses.
