The amount of coverage/beautification for the World Cup in Houston is underwhelming

Sure, we get the occasional billboard here and there, but for the world’s largest sporting event, you would think this town will be going bat shite crazy.

When the Super Bowl was here a while back, this town fricking lost its mind, and there were major transformations going on like new trees and plants, nice flowers, all the buildings downtown got LED up lights, and it felt and looked like Miami

Our main airport is a total shite show, and they are going to start construction on one of the other terminals….. there’s no way it’ll be ready in time and if there’s a chance for Houston to look good for another big sporting event, we are on the cusp of squandering it

We should be ashamed of ourselves

Them clearing out the Greyhound station in DT was awesome. Was long overdue and now we won't be totally embarrassed.

I remember when coming up south on 59, exiting for Minute Maid left you with an option of going left into downtown or right into the ghetto. That whole area looks nicer now.

I think you are overselling or misremembering what happened during the Super Bowl. And of course residents were more excited about the Super Bowl than the World Cup, it shouldn’t be difficult to figure out why.

I agree with you on the airport though

Supposedly Sugar Land’s trying it best to be THE place where all the players and fans stay.

I hope they fail.

They're holding 7 matches in a stadium that already hosts football games in the 4th biggest city, it's really not that big of a deal.

Just like it's really not that big of a deal to host a Super Bowl, you don't need to have massive makeovers for 1 sporting event

It's like everyone wants to take the failed Olympics model and reproduce it

Houston is hosting like 7 out of 100 soccer matches.

Round of 16 match on July 4th will be big but the championship game is in New Jersey

FIFA wanted and asked for an entire terminal for a entire month with no federal governmental oversight whatsoever

they were told no but that's what they asked for in the first phone call to the host city's
that and escorts

Ask the average Houstonian where the Dynamo play, and you'll quickly understand why the World Cup isn't moving the needle. Even IF they could tell you they're a Houston team they won't know the stadium (Shell Energy) cause most won't ever go see a game.

The World Cup is one of my favorite sporting events to watch. It's going to be epic.

I only know where the soccer stadium is because when I lived in Houston, I would park in a bank parking lot near the soccer stadium to go to the Astros games.
