Let’s talk Braveheart

Sat down and watched the whole damn thing last night. I somehow had never seen the whole thing start to finish. What a movie. Here are some notes I have, I’d like to hear some from you baws.
- First of all, great score and cinematography
- William Wallace is the most likable ruthless serial killer ever
- I was not as annoyed by Robert the Bruce as I should have been, his dad sucked though
- Edward Longshanks is one of the best movie villains of all time. He should have made a very deep run in the most hated movie villain tournament on here
- Most importantly Sophie Marceau is so fine. I don’t know what it is but she is one of the most alluring characters I’ve ever seen in a movie

The only thing I don't like about it is the love story between William and Sophie Marceau's character. It seems so unnecessary.
Outlaw King is worth watching too.

Not much else to say about it. Great movie with obviously a very tragic ending.

It’s good for a feel-good popcorn flick and a loose telling of his life and exploits.
But it’s not historically accurate in much of its runtime.

So unnecessary that in order to put it into an already long movie, they ignored that historically the real princess isabella was about 9 when real william wallace died

Ha! Just finished a rewatch 2 days ago.
One of my all time favorite movies. Also one of my best cinematic experiences seeing this the first time in the theatre. Beautiful score, beautiful scenery and incredible performances by Mel and several other actors. Yes, it's not historically accurate, but I don't care. I had a major thing for Sophie after seeing this movie.
I wish they would re-release this in theatres today.

Fantastic movie.
You have to acknowledge the historical inaccuracies just since it sort of portrays itself as telling the history.
Always love the scene where Wallace starts speaking Latin and then French and that English a-hole is put off.
Only quibble - during several of the battle closeups the fighting in thr background is horribly slow and fake and not close to looking real. Kind of like in Rudy when one of the family is looking the wrong way from the others when Rudy gets to play you can’t unsee it once seen.

Great movie. I put it up there with Shawshank Redemption as one of the best of the decade.

Man, I got a funny story about this one.
When I was a junior in high school, one of our projects was to write a paper about a movie and then dress up as a character from that movie. I picked Braveheart (I guess the teacher didn't realize there was nudity in it), and my mom decided to sew up a kilt for me to wear for the character dress up day. She went to google Images and searched for kilts. The first few images were normal pictures of Scottish dudes playing bagpipes or eating nasty looking food. Two rows down, there was a picture titled "Half Pounder in a Kilt." It was of a dude with his leg up and his big ole dong visible under the kilt. When my mom saw it, she screamed and started hitting the screen with the mouse.:

William’s revenge on Longshanks’ policy of prima nocte. It’s vital to the story’s conclusion and the ultimate revenge on Longshank’s deathbed.

Isn't there a fan remake where they cut up the footage and made it more historically accurate? I cant remember the name of it.
ETA: The most prominent one is called Braveheart – The Elerslie Edition, created by a fan editor known as CBB and released around 2011. It's available through fanedit communities like Fanedit.org.
This version:
Removes or reduces the romantic subplot with Princess Isabella (a major historical inaccuracy, since she was a child in France at the time and couldn't have had an affair with Wallace).
Trims the film's tone to reduce the "growing sadness" and make Wallace feel more like a heroic figure rather than a tragic romantic lead.
Shortens the runtime from the original ~177 minutes to about 126 minutes by cutting less accurate or melodramatic elements.

100% here. Between Longshanks and the Warden from Escape from Alcatraz, Patric Mcgoohan plays a great bad guy.
