Current portal setup forces you to have to go all in

So I think some here, myself included, assumed we would get a good to great portal class and rebuild in ‘26 to some degree and then go all in for ‘27 when Kiffin is established and has his system in place.

That would make sense in the early portal era and most definitely pre portal and NIL but now it’s morphed.

Your entire roster is up for bid every single off season. You may get a kid, but he could be gone immediately. Yes retaining is likely easier but still a very good chance any decent to great talent on your team takes off for simply more money.

If you don’t go all in every single year, you are quite literally conceding a season and making it that much harder the following. The days of “building” are gone or will at minimum look very different.

Kudos to Kiffin and his staff for understanding this.. hence the absolute slaughter we are seeing in the portal and total sense of urgency.

Future is bright guys.

Bingo! I totally agree. We're LSU and we're giving this OL a police escort around town like he's the president of the US and he doesn't give two shits about LSU.

I don't understand how LSU fans are getting excited about signing players that don't give a shite about LSU. Those three letters mean something to me and thousands of other fans because we were born and raised on LSU sports.

So LSU goes on to win a NC with a group of players that don't care about LSU and its history and tradition and then bolts to the next team for another check and you're okay with that?

Do you think Burrow really cares about LSU that much or the state of Louisiana?

I was thinking this too.

We started adding wide receivers right away to help lure three quarterbacks in.

Well, I’m not the biggest fan of all of this by any means, but if you hate this that bad then it might be time for you to stop watching or following LSU football. Because it looks like this is here to stay.

It also makes me wonder how many players on average who enter the portal every season and don’t get picked up.

According to On3

2021 67% transferred to new schools and 0.25% withdrew from portal
2022 65% transferred to new schools and 2.59% withdrew from portal
2023 65% transferred to new schools and 1.67% withdrew from portal
2024 69% transferred to new schools and 3.14% withdrew from portal
2025 68% transferred to new schools and 3.65% withdrew from portal
2026 (so far) 66% transferred to new schools and 1.37% withdrew from portal

So roughly 70% of players who enter the portal come out the other end. 30% made a bad decision. Now, as to the veracity of the On3 numbers, who knows.

College game is constantly evolving. It does not matter that I do not like the evolution because there is nothing I can do about it. The game is now driven by financial concerns. Nothing more nothing less. I think the transfer portal players if properly motivated can buy into a team spirt. It is after all a team sport. I have to agree these revolving door transfer portal players are not the same as a kid who signs out of high school and plays for the same school for four years and gets a degree to boot. Those days I think are over because now the goal is not degree given but to get into a NFL pro career.

No one is “OK” with the situation of buying players but it’s the rules of competition today, as soon as we have “rules” we will want the players that are very good, proven and want to be an LSU tiger. For now we gotta play this bs game.

I learned a long time ago that players and coaches don’t give a shite about LSU. Very few players are still fans 20 years later. Almost zero coaches remain fans. It’s a job to them. It’s a stepping stone to the NFL. Sure they might be friends with teammates and such down the road but how many are true fans like us? Not many. When Skyler Green pulled for Bama to beat LSU in 2007 because of Saban they told me the jersey he wore meant nothing.

Just enjoy that the current administration are trying to win.

it definitely makes it much harder to emotionally buy in. All we're watching is a bunch of mercenaries following the money. Many/most will be gone the following year, just chasing dollars.

It's like the NFL (which I don't care about), but actually much worse because most NFL players are with a team for number of years, per their contract.

In this current college environment, it's a free-for-all every single year.

Except for the uniforms, there's very little resemblance to the game we all grew up loving.

College football is broken.
