With this wild weather, if you can hunt the river or keep a hole open, will they fly? Or just hunker down. Was there last weekend and saw plenty birds in the area. Just not sure with this kind of projected weather how it will go. Usually had better luck on the thaw but this is last weekend I got so need to let it rip

Never had much luck hunting in severe weather (ice).
Would use ice eaters if available but once they go off you’ll see ice form g pretty quick. Good luck and stay safe

Was going to our lease but it's going to be ice station Zebra. The problem is it doesn't look like it really thaws out for the next 10 days or so. And by then it's over. Will see how it goes ..

Supposed to be leaving for northern Oklahoma tomorrow morning. Area is supposed to get more snow than ice. Will see how it goes.

More worried about getting home Monday.

The property across the highway from us holds a bunch of un hunted ducks. Their water is really shallow so we may benefit in the early part of this thing. My crashing through ice in wader days are over though.

Depending on where in NE AR, I think they are forecasting 8-12" of snow.

We did very well hunting the river up there in Jan of '17. They won't have anywhere else to go. Stick it out, I remember us not having many birds early. It was well into the hunt, sun was up and they started coming from somewhere to the east and it was an almost constant steam of birds.

Open water equals ducks.
Good luck

Yea, you can kill them when everything is frozen. I do it every time it happens. I fill the well motors up with fuel and turn them on. I have 4 pit blinds with a risers 25 yards in front of them.
Crank the wells and crack the risers. They will drop in like they do in warm water springs.

You still going? Definitely pack accordingly in case you get stuck somewhere.

Without putting your life in peril driving on icy roads, head to the river. Find a point in a long straight away on the river but pay attention to the laws. Arkansas laws are very different than Ga when it comes to getting out of the boat and hunting

Ended up not going. Saturday and Sunday hunts were toss ups anyway. Couldn't stay there until Tuesday or Wednesday.

If the shallow water freezes and you can find running water that's not you can absolutely murder them

It's probably not going to be cold long enough for the woods to freeze though

Got out of my truck at 6am and it was 34, got back to truck at 11 and it was 21 with a strong NE wind. Shallows were starting to freeze up when I was picking up my ice blocks. Hot tip, if you’re using Heydays, make sure you drain them. Think I carried out an additional 10 lbs of ice

If they fly and you have open water it’ll be a blood bath.
