Awesome.

Seeing as to how AI is an entity that learns its code through the internet, it should be fun to see how AI learns once it only has other AI code to learn from.

He's not wrong but it will still take time to get there. AI is good at writing small units of well defined functionality.

It's still terrible at writing anything of scale.

It's a productivity enhancement tool for real developers at the moment. Relying on it to build the whole thing is terrible.

It will continue to get better though of course

I’m so angry.

All the years the OT told me to learn to code. So, like a good OT’r, i go and learn to code. Get an entire new career and now the computers are gonna take my job.

Why were you guys against trades all those years and think people should go to college and learn to code instead?

Oh, is this today's thread? Okay, cool.

If it means node.js goes away, double cool.

I am not a coder by any measure.

I can slog through SQL and utilize M Code in power query.

I have started to utilize Claude to rewrite or just straight up write a lot of it.

AI will not replace humans. It has no goals. It needs to be pointed in very specific directions to accomplish goals.

But people who know how to do that will replace people who dont, for sure.

Much more rapidly than people realize. I think the critics of AI who today make valid criticisms of some of the current product are in denial about how rapidly these changes are coming.

Imagine the changes we have seen in the Internet and smartphones over the last 25 years, multiply it by 5 and compress it into about 24 months.

That's what's happening.

This guy feels less like a tech bro than the usual tech bro.

I’ve written a lot of code lately using AI. He’s not wrong. You can get most of the way for most common applications with AI generating and refining the application. It’s really helpful if you are unfamiliar with a language and need to produce something to get started. Or need to rewrite from one language to another. This mundane work usually takes only a small amount of ramp up time in a project but it definitely delays getting to value, and AI is expediting that.

Human creativity gets past the mundane quickly, that’s an exciting thing. The real engineers, the creative people, will really shine with these tools

Guy on my team used Claude AI today ti create a document service program in 2 hours that would have taken a developer 4 weeks to create writing node.js code from scratch. AI is going to put alot of developers out on the cheese line within 3 years.
