We thought next year would be a rebuilding year, with this portal hall could we compete?

Everyone, me including, figured next season would be a rebuilding year. It may be a rebuilding year, we had a ton of players leave, it’ll be first year for a new offensive system to learn, new coaches to get to know, tons of new players…BUT with this portal hall and some solid experience play could we compete for a cfp spot in year one with Lane? I think we have a ton of offensive weapons and we have Blake Baker back as DC and some experience there still. I feel like the biggest thing will be how we finish out on the offensive line, edge rusher, and if Leavitt’s injury is fully healed and not slowing him down any.

I know other schools are returning a lot of talent and receiving tons of talent in the portal as well, but it’s hard not to look at LSU and not be excited. It’s crazy how fun LSU football has already been with Lane Kiffin verses how boring and frustrating it’s been the past 2 years.

I’m getting more excited by the day.

My head says temper my expectations because our schedule is arguably the hardest in the country.

My heart believes in this team already.

You don’t pay that much for Leavitt if you’re not expecting a contender for 2026. We are coming.

These guys didn’t come here to have a rebuilding year. The portal is to pluck, plug & play. Skip out on the rebuild. With all the money we have, it’s teams putting everything together with far less resources and talent.

I don't believe in rebuilding years with the amount of money being paid.

It's possible. It just depends on how well they all gel with one another. Ole Miss wasn't expected to do anything this year, and they made it the deepest into the post season out of all the teams from the SEC.

We're going to need some guys on the defensive side of the ball to take the next step up, but we have picked up some good pieces there. They're going to have a solid leader on that side of the ball.

Playoffs shouldn’t be expected, but it’s definitely not impossible.

I think reasonable fans will expect 9+ wins and with some luck, they will make the playoffs.

I agree! The schedule is brutal. It’s a fully new and different offense for players to learn. A lot of new, important players to get comfortable. Portal QBs at LSU have historically made huge jumps in year 2 after getting comfortable. We did lose a lot, but did return several experienced weapons on top of signing a lot of players with high ceilings. With our schedule if we win 9 games, but are competitive in all of our games, I’d call that a great year!

The age of “rebuilding” is over. The portal age is here. Players don’t move laterally to “rebuild”, they move to win a championship in the current year.

Our schedule is too difficult

It also still takes time to instill a culture of work ethic. We have a lot of loafers on our team who wont handle conditioning for a no huddle offense very well.

I agree partially, but let’s be honest the biggest reason 90 percent of players pick their school is who is going to pay them the most and playing time.

I expect the playoffs with the amount of money spent and I'm sure they do too.

With all the money afforded to Lane and the football program, there is no way he is afforded a “rebuilding year”.

The idea of a rebuilding year died with the rise of NIL. plenty of teams are rebuilding and competing right away.

Lane knows if he doesnt make the playoffs year one that seat will start to get warm
