Those with a gym membership - what are you paying per month?

And what does it get you?
My wife is finally wanting to start strength training, but she has no desire to work out in our garage. Especially now that it’s cold.
I was mortified to see Lifetime Fitness is $339/month for family and $260/month for just the two of us. That apparently does NOT include the cost of fitness classes, but I haven’t confirmed. Lifetime is an 8 minute drive.
We have a YMCA sorta close by that is pretty decent. Has a few squat racks and plenty of room and equipment for high quality lifting programs. Group classes included. Indoor/outdoor pool. $130/month for family. It’s 17 minutes away.
The only other option is a Planet Fitness but they’ll throw my deadlifting arse out with quickness.

Fitness 2020 give it a goog
It’s new and only in metro ATL area, just opened one where my old gym was that abruptly closed. It’s $30/mo and is badass. Has plenty of everything I need and use, has an area called PLAE that has classes, has a cinema room with treadmills and cardio stuff. And sauna is hot as Frick. Hard to stay in past 15mins.

Holy shite. That place is $30/month?!? I just looked it up and it looks like a stellar gym.
We have Crunch Fitness in Birmingham, but it’s 20+ minutes from me. We don’t have the time to commute that far for a gym.

$300 a year at 24hr. Does not include classes.
I was a member at Lifetime over a decade ago, it was $120 a month for a family then. It was a great place, everything was clean and taken care of. It had an indoor field, indoor and out door pool, plus they provided free childcare for kids under 12 while you were there.

Yeah wife and I love it. We’re at the Smyrna location that’s 3 miles from us. 20 miles is way too far. When my old gym closed we went to OneLife and it was 8 miles away and I bitched about that. So happy now with F2020 especially since it just opened from an old space everything is brand new and super nice and clean. I think they’re gonna incrementally increase fees for new members and already have since we joined. It’s definitely worth double or more the price we pay.
Good luck finding something. I heard Crunch is crap too

You should check with your insurance and see if they have a program to get you discounted gym membership. A lot of times they'll be partnered with certain gyms and it only requires a phone call with someone at the insurance company to ask about your health and exercise, then you get a discounted rate

$130/month for family at our local YMCA that is 1 mile from our house.
Its amazing. Huge gym area, Crossfit/Hyrox classes (extra $15 per month), basketball courts, pickleball, indoor family pool, indoor Olympic pool, and any class you could think of
Its going to suck when we move because it by far the best $130 I pay every month

Was at Lifetime when the kids were still here. It was $200/month. As mentioned earlier, it’s the Taj Mahal of gyms: clean, free classes, indoor pool, outdoor pool, trainers, etc, etc, etc. Well worth it for a family.
I did Anytime for a while. It’s close to me, relatively new. It’s clean and rarely crowded, but it’s limited in gear and doesn’t have a pool. It was $50/month.
Currently at the YMCA. It’s convenient as they have a location near my house and also near my office. We get a corporate discount so it’s $70/month. They offer some classes and have the pool I wanted. It can be crowded at times and they are limited in gear they have. The facilities near me are dated and poorly designed.
I’ve toyed with going back to Anytime. I enjoyed the lack of a crowd and not having to find room to do what I wanted. However, I have a grandson that we keep a lot. He will be two this year and the Y has a lot of offerings for kids that Anytime simply does not.

We use club4fitness and it's $26 per month. Very nice facilities. They are several in the bham area. Inverness,Hoover, Homewood and Trussville.
ETA: Club4 has a kids program but I haven't used it.

We’re at Life Time for $260 a month but the quality of the club has dropped pretty dramatically and it’s insanely crowded. We got in during COVID originally at $180 and the the cleanliness and quality, especially of the pool has dropped while prices have increased.
If it wasn’t 5 mins away we would have found something else already.

is there a crossfit (affiliated or not) gym close by? that would be by far the best value for strength + coaching classes
pay $50 a week for unlimited classes + open gym at mine and tons of moms…there’s definitely more middle aged women learning the positives of taking creatine and weight lifting/strength for longevity purposes.
also pay $80 a month for the local YMCA which includes classes, free childcare (including once a month date night), indoor/outdoor pools, etc. the actual weight room is average, just a bunch of machines mainly. childcare, pool and discounts on sports is the main use for us

Just joined a PF that just opened in December. $20/month any location. This one is 24/7. Has free weights, squat racks. I go at 5 or 5:30 AM so I don't see what strolls in later than that but I'm good to this point with what's going on in there. I also workout in my house garage.
If PF turns out to not be a good spot for me its month to month and I've got 3 other options locally I can try including a Anytime, YMCA and another locally owned spot that is 24/7.

$0 until my Medicare plan dropped the freebie. Now, $42.99/mo at a OneLife Fitness. OneLife is a huge gym with lots of gear. No waiting usually even with the new year crowd.

Family - wife + 2 kids = $340/mo in Covington. Overpriced for what you get compared to the boujee clubs in big cities. Its your basic nice club - membership includes: lap pool, kids pool, plenty of tennis/pickleball courts, weight floor, cardio floor, fitness classes, basketball court, 2 hours of kids care per day. Its legit <5 minutes from our house and the other nicer clubs in Mandeville are 20+ minutes away.
Its one of the few luxuries I gladly pay for since I'm there 5x a week and have plenty of friends there as well

9.99 a month at EOS for their basic membership. (comes out to $13 with "fees") EOS is the nicest gym i've had a membership at.

Man I miss lifetime so much.
As a WFH guy it was really nice to get out and go there for a bit each day.
