quote:
Williams signed a one-year rev-share agreement with UW worth about $4M.
The agreement is a Big Ten template document used by all league members and built for situations like this.
The agreement (1) prohibits a player from entering the portal once signed (this is why UW is refusing to enter his name into the portal) and (2) prohibits the player’s NIL rights to be used by any other school, though the player can sign outside marketing agreements.
Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti, coincidentally in Seattle this week for a memorial service, is heavily involved in the matter, along with other Big Ten officials. The league is standing behind UW’s fervent approach to the contract.
Washington officials are expected to communicate later today with Demond Williams’ representatives regarding the situation and next steps.
With UW refusing to enter Williams’ name into the portal, he is not permitted to hold conversations with other programs.
UW officials suspect that Williams has already held conversations with other programs and the school plans to submit any tampering evidence to the league and NCAA.
LSU is believed to be the school most interested in Williams.

Delly hoping to wreck LSU for his boy Pete. It’s gonna be real weird when it doesn’t work.

Is it dumb to draw parallels to this to non-competes which are largely unenforceable?

Sounds like an employee to me.

So what prevents him from unenrolling?

Yeah, pretty sure that will not hold up in court. You cannot prevent movement of a player within the NCAA permitted guidelines.
But sure, some smart lawyers got paid a lot to put that unenforceable clause in writing.

its not "muh tampering" if we are talking to his rep(s).
With the microscope we are currently under you can be damn sure we are crossing our Ts and dotting our Is

Can they explain the non-portal AZ QB that just committed?

I think there is some difference because we’re talking about NIL licensing not employement but that’s a distinction that idk if it holds up in court.
There isn’t really anything they can do to keep him there.
He may have to forfeit his revenue share thisnyear but outside NIL is still open

Regardless of outcome, UW, the Big 10, and Williams are going to seek a resolution as soon as possible with the portal closing in the next 9 days.
If Williams doesn't want to be at UW, UW shouldn't want drag this out. Regardless of which side you are on, UW is going to come out looking bad on this one.
I see one of two things happening, 1) UW quietly increases Williams NIL deal and he stays and this goes away or 2) UW puts the paper work in the portal and he transfers wherever he is going.
Hope he ends up at LSU, but I more so hope that this example brings college football closer to some type of legit structure/rules for roster building moving forward.
This entire thing is silly.

Sounds like the NCAA needs to nut up and call it how it is, employment.
Either way, Demond coming to put on the Yella jersey mane.

Nothing and thats exactly what is going to happen. Washington is basically screwed and could MAYBE recoup some of the money but thats about it.

See an objective reporter would report on how Noah fifita re upped with Arizona 5 days prior but then yesterday decided to go to UW.
And how that sounds like as much evidence as UW has of lsu tampering

The SEC doesn't give a damn about big 10 templates. We will do whatever we want to do and tie it up in court for the next 5 years while Williams becomes the next great Tiger QB

By signing that he is not able to compete elsewhere? Seems a bit restrictive given that players can do as they want and NIL is not tied to performance measures or quotas.

So Williams can just withdraw from school, transfer to LSU, and because of the agreement, LSU can't give him any rev share?
Oh nooooo we'll just have to give him outside money and not use any of our rev share cap on Williams and it can go to other players instead while we have our QB1 ahhh nooo what will we do?!?

Nothing. Uneroll from Washington, enroll at LSU and be a "walk-on" for the football team. There's workarounds if they want it since there are no rules in the NCAA anymore.

Cover 3 did a whole segment on it and essentially said that its "yucky" but essentially there is nothing Washington can do
