Kids arcades and the junk you collect after

My God, my kids are at the age of enjoying these places.
Anyone else have these in your life?
1) They are really expensive… $60 probably lasts an hour per kid
2) the kids then collect tickets from the games they can spend/redeem at the shitty trinket market at the arcade after. They would spend inordinate amounts of time figuring out the best purchases if I ket them. Mine have a 4 minute limit the rare times we go (e.g rainy day on vacation)
3) they get like $4 worth of junk that comes home, and I toss it all within 48 hours

The point is to do stuff WITH your kids. Not just drop them off
All the money in the world won't buy that time back.
Plus you can get unlimited laser tag, putt putt and dark ride for 2 hours for a decent price. Just do those with them

It costs about 100 dollars to leave your house at this point, especially if you have kids. You did good only spending 60.

The good times won't last forever. Just remember that when they're that age, the simple joys are some of the best. Yeah, it's expensive to go to the arcade and play silly games, but some of the happiest I've ever seen my kids was buying some cheap plastic junk with their hard earned tickets.
PS: It's good to teach them the value of money, but don't be too much of a killjoy and always bellyache about how expensive everything is.

Aren’t you a divorced father, sharing custody?

It’s a casino for kids, let them play

This. Life is short, make the most of it.

Yup, so I have to make half the time twice as sweet.

Now, as an adult, I realize that arcades are basically like gambling for kids.

It’s my kids favorite thing in the whole wide world (he’s six).
He’s gotten to be a pro at the big arse claw game where you grab a big ball for tickets.
Dude will clean the entire house to spend an hour there.
We are on a first name basis with the workers at two local arcades.

Exactly why he’s stressing the importance of doing stuff with them. He knows he has limited time and is trying to make the most of it.

But... why? Picking trinkets is the icing on the cake... don't be a scrooge!

You should seek out an arcade that has all the old awesome games we grew up playing. You pay about $10 per person for unlimited play and it’s a blast. We’ve done that several times and the kids loved it.

Playing in the arcade with my boys is great fun. Watching them get just enough tickets to win a waffle maker then going ape shite was absolutely worth $50.

I spent $800 a few weeks ago to take my daughter to a concert 4 hrs from home. I didn’t want to spend that money, but I got to spend 24 hours with her, just us. She leaves for college next summer. It was money well spent.
