As recently as the early 70s it was still pretty much that way. Reagan was governor then I believe.

You can trace the downfall to the election of George Moscone as mayor of San Francisco in 1976 IMO. That was the end of everything.

I'd say 1900-1960 southern California was peak. They believed in police force then.

The 50s were great, but so were the 60s and 70s, despite the sensational events-Manson and assorted other devils.
I lived in the Bay Area from the late 70s to 2005. Even the 80s, Los Angeles was still in peak form and more affordable. Benign neglect ruined California. It has never worked as a policy.

You lost me at California
Like Colorado was in the ‘70s through the ‘90s.
To represent otherwise is simply not true.

I was born there, and both of my parents did High school there. Id say peak California was 1964, then slowly downhill from there. The two decades there postwar were probably the best time and place in American history.

Joe Rogan used to always show that Skynyrd concert in Oakland or San Fran back in the 70’s and it looks like peak America to me…like someone 20 years old at that concert would be very have to worry about being drafted and would watch the stock market increase by 10’fold in 20 years.

Can't disagree. I've always thought that would be great to have been a young man there. Maybe starting in the late 40's even. Hot rods, beaches, boys could still be boys.
BUT, my experience was pretty damn good. Grew up in the 70's in Charleston, SC. Worked in a gas station with a bunch of flyboys and squids,.They all had hot rods, girls and weed. Learned how to surf, work on a car, and a bunch of bad vices. They got me in to the strip clubs near the Navy base and sold me wholesale Columbian Gold / Panama Red. I was quite popular in HS. Dad raced at Summerville Speedway, sports, blah blah blah.
