Would it shock you that the pope has almost zero bearing on the day to day life of Catholics?
I've been either in or around the church my whole life and now on pope #4. The catechism and the mass have gone largely unchanged the entire time. The few changes I have seen are the wording (not the meaning) of certain prayers for english speaking parishioners.
The pope is not some sort of super hero Jesus channeler like some of the uniformed think we believe he is.
