December 27, 537 AD.

Roman Emperor Justinian II walked into the completed sanctuary of the grandest structure in all of Christendom on the morning of December 27, 537. Staring up at the grand dome, a gigantic painting of Jesus Christ stared back at him from high above. With an audible gasp, Justinian is said to have expressed in amazement: "Solomon, I have outdone thee."

And so it was that the Hagia Sophia, until the completion of the modern version of St. Peter's Basilica in 1626 - over 1,000 years later, was the largest Christian structure the world had yet known. Even as a mosque in 2025, the interior of the Hagia Sophia continues to astound visitors to what once was the greatest architectural marvel of the early Medieval world.

The fairly recently constructed St. Sava in Belgrade is supposed to be a "new" Hagia Sophia. Obviously, it's not quite as grand, but the interior is a pretty close approximation of what it used to be.

How could the world allow those mongrel bastards to turn that into a mosque?

Ask me how I know you have never been to Türkiye. Istanbul is 100x nicer than New Orleans and most American cities.

What does that have to do with them being goat smelling mongrels? If you were to send the demographics of New Orleans to turkey, it would turn into a shithole too.

I thought he was more questioning why other Christian nations didn't help the Romans against the Ottomans. Hope he doesn't look up the Fourth Crusade.

Constantinople was conquered in 1453 by Ottoman Muslims and turned into a mosque, way before 1626.

Somebody is off on their timeline here.

I think that you’re misinterpreting the statement.
