Taking over a Winn-Dixie
I live in N.O. in Mid-City and there is a Rouses and right across the street on Carrollton Ave. there is a Winn-Dixie.
Hands down I prefer the Rouses store and find them to be more consistent with their pricing with W-D being a bit higher overall on much of their merchandise.
I shop more at Costco, then Rouses and probably spend no more than $50 a month in W-D

Rouses recently bought 10 stores from WD as they’ll have 80 stores total, and looking to build more in next few years

I would kill to have one in Middle TN.
But, Publix gets us by for now.

Also taking over the WD in Franklinton.

The Winn Dixie at Hooper and Joor is also changing hands. I went there this morning and they are rearranging the ailes and doing stuff with scissor lifts in the ceiling. They also had all WD store products 40% off so I loaded up a cart with pantry staples.
This used to be the only grocery store in Central. It's older than me, and I'm pushing 50. My Mom is pissed, I'm hopeful for the change.

Can it compete with Corner Market?
Personally, I think Corner Market may be better than any grocery stores on the MS coast including Rouses. Prices seem about comparable.

Publix is miles better than Rouses imo.

Every Rouse's that they built are great, the stores they bought or acquired are treated like step children. All of the LeBlanc's were ran better, when they were LeBlanc's.
Going into the Rouse's at Long Farm is night and day from any of the stores in Ascension. The registers are always understaffed, the parking lot is full of carts, both returned and scattered. The produce is inconsistent.

The Rouse's I'm familiar with (Houma, Juban Rd, Slidell, Picayune, Covington) are way better than Corner Market (Hardy Street).
Rouse's are no HEB but they are way better than Publix or Kroger or Winn-Dixie.

Rouse's is a solid upgrade over Winn Dixie.

Meh they’re ok stores. Better than WD for sure. What you really want is an HEB. Hell, I want an HEB in Gonzales but that will never happen.

That particular location isn't older than you. I'm about your age and worked at the original one which was in the current Tractor Supply building. I worked there for a year in 1994. The current location replaced that one in maybe the late 90s or somewhere around then.

I stand corrected, this does bring back memories of the old TG&Y, maybe Danny's Fried Chicken?

I love HEB, but they lack in two things.
Consistent bone-in pork steaks. Sometimes the bone is so brittle it crumbles into your gravy.
Louisiana gumbo crabs. HEB’s are from Mexico, and are fine, but I do prefer purchasing from LA.

I flipped perception on Rouses after they built a new store on Camellia in Lafayette. The nearest one to me before that was in Youngsville. It is a huge store. The produce was hit or miss, but everything else was fine. The layout is kind of aggravating because it is so big. My wife and I preferred shopping at Albertson's because it had better produce and the layout was easier to navigate.
Once they opened the Camellia store, we haven't stepped foot in Albertson's. That is a BEAUTIFUL store with excellent produce. The layout is perfect. And prices have consistently been very reasonable, with many items cheaper than other stores.
