Don't forget, he was NYPD before he moved to Los Angeles and guarded the Ghostbusters when they were in jail. Surprised him and McClain didn't know each other.

The last line of the movie is “if this is what y’all do for Christmas, I can’t wait for New Years”

Christmas is the reason that John McClain has traveled to LA, and the reason for the party going on in the movie. There is Christmas music and imagery throughout the movie that plays into the plot and action.

It is an action movie that is also a Christmas movie.

Just like Eyes Wide Shut.

Hey, if you want to degenerate Christmas by associating it with violence and death, no one is stopping you. Just don't expect us all to agree with you.

Yes, it is! It has that traditional Christmas Eve Notre Dame-USC matchup in it.

Well, Die Hard is about heroism, sacrifice, a fractured family healing, facing/defeating evil, etc.

In Eyes Wide Shut, Kubrick (brilliantly) uses Christmas decorations as a motif alongside the rainbow. In Die Hard, the entire plot of the movie happens because of Christmas. Sure, it's a framing device, but that doesn't change the nature of it as an action Christmas film.
