Should Trade War with Canada be Escalated?

Jim Beam Halting Bourbon Production
Interesting article I saw today about Jim Beam halting bourbon production for a year. A lot of Canadians are cheering this on as them "succeeding" with their boycott of U.S. good and U.S. companies.
Now personally, I think they think too highly of themselves. The reality most likely, is that it's Gen Z not drinking nearly as much that has hurt distilleries like Jim Beam more than a Canadian boycott. With that said, I don't doubt a Canadian boycott has had some impact.
But can Trump really let this go unanswered? You have government officials in Canadian provinces like Ontario bragging about removing U.S. alcohol from their shelves.
I think it's time to fight back and put Canada in it's place. So for example, if Canada continues it's removal of U.S. based alcohol from it's shelves, then we do the same. We remove and ban all Canadian based alcohol from the shelves.
Any industry Canada goes after, we go after Canada in reverse. Canada wants to boycott U.S. made appliances, then the U.S. needs to boycott and ban Canadian based appliances.
I would honestly be okay with banning any tourism to Canada. Canada is trying to mess with the U.S. tourism industry while ignoring that the U.S. could crush Canada's tourism industry any time we want.
I think it's time to remind Canada, they need to U.S. far far more than the U.S. will ever need Canada.

Agreed.
Reciprocal trade embargo.

I think that would be a knee-jerk reaction at this point. Let the market sort it out over the course of time. The article you linked even said the facility will undergo upgrades during the shutdown to make it more efficient. Also, as you stated, there could be other factors accounting for the loss of revenue.
Let Canada escalate things if they want to. Then we’ll see.

Typo, it’s been fixed. How about a focus on the actual topic at hand?

The problem is then the perception is Canada can run all over the U.S. That’s the whole reason Trump got elected. America displayed nothing but weakness during Biden and Biden let other countries run all over us.
Canada is doing this boycott because there hasn’t been a U.S. response. If the U.S. warned Canada of reciprocal boycotts (Canada removes U.S. alcohol, U.S. then removes Canadian alcohol), I think you would see Canada pull back on its snappiness they’ve shown this year. And you remind Canada of their place.
You also screw up liberals because many liberals here in the U.S. are buying Canadian as a boycott. So make them but U.S. based alcohol or go without. They would lose their minds.

They're too busy chasing down trendy craft beers and IPAs that taste like fruity dog shite.

That’s millennials. Gen Z doesn’t really drink much. Those that do drink, pretty much only sip seltzers or cheap lite beer. Gen Z has largely been priced out of social drinking, or really social everything.

Good grief. Jim Beam is not halting production for a year. They have three distilleries, and this one produces 20-30%. They are moving production to their main campus and probably doing some improvements to this one. The downturn in bourbon sales probably helps the decision, but everyone in the bourbon industry knew there'd be a downturn after ten years of hyped demand.

trade wars with our strongest allies in Canada, japan, korea, EU but friendly with El Salvador, Chile and Argentina

Jim Beam’s sales were down in 2024 as well. There is a ton of small batch bourbon and distilleries on the market today. Bill Goldring is making a killing with Sazerac Company.

And not Trump lying about Fentanyl being the reason to hate on Canada and Venezuela?

We'd make a bigger dent in the fentanyl supply if we went after Canada for it than we are with Venezuela. Canada actually does have a fentanyl super lab problem.
