Do you travel, or have family travel to you for Christmas?

We live in a different states than both sets of parents and don’t have kids, so we switch traveling to each set of parents every holiday.

Usually my house.
Daughter (and SIL) just bought their first house... so we will go there this year to celebrate Christmas as well as their new home.

I laid the law down several years ago. I’m home for Christmas and anyone who wants to come to me is welcome.
I’m happy to travel a couple weekends before or after, but I’m not fighting the rat race or madness of holiday travel.

I drive. Everyone else is local to my parents. It’ll probably stay that way as long as my parents are in the house we all grew up in.
We don’t do a big extended family thing though. My dad’s family decided 20 years ago after grandparents were gone that they would do their big extended family get togethers on Super Bowl Sunday and Fourth of July.

We used to run around trying to see everyone with our two boys.
We would be wore out from traveling so as boys got older we stayed home for the most part.
Sure was a lot more relaxing and less stressful.

First time in 25 years that I don’t have to travel somewhere on Christmas Eve/Day. Looking forward to just being home.

I’m up in North Georgia, my three sister all live close. I can go to each one’s house by golf cart. The town allows golf cart travel, to most roads that are 35 mph and below. Same with going out to eat. It helps to know most of the restaurant owners in the town, I can call or text for a table.
I try to come up every few years and spend a few weeks.
I use to invite one and all to my place on the water in S. La.
Last night at a restaurant, my family up here knows Otis Nixon, former Atlanta Braves player, he wants to make a trip to Pierre Part/Belle River to watch the Swamp People in action. September is Gator month. So I’ll spend most of the month in S. La.

I try to come up every few years and spend a few weeks.

Christmas eve we go to my wife's family buts thats just a short 30 min drive down 49 so no big.
Christmas day is reserved for us... we don't accept invites and no one visits. After being a kid that was put on the guilt trip holiday circuit every Christmas and hated it, and vowed that my family would have a day to ourselves.....and its fricking wonderful.

When ours were young, we traveled to Louisiana and were with both families - one in Shreveport, the other River Ridge
Our three and the Grands come this way and have Christmas when we can all gather - this year the 26th

No. My family made the choice to live in the suffer-ville that is DC/NoVA. And no way I'm going to Indiana in the winter to visit the one relative I know that's still alive.
Get them an iPad and FaceTime them. Ship them some hot cocoa that you can drink together virtually. They don't have grandkids with you, what obligation are you fulfilling? Stop by their place on the way out to July 4th, visit them on Easter on your way to 30A.

No longer travel for Christmas. I traveled for many years to Lake Charles from San Antonio, but my folks are in heaven now.

Our children are adults and live away. We have visited with them already, this year we are traveling to see my Dad and Sister, then seeing Brother-in-law the 26th. North Mississippi to Atlanta back across I20 to Alabama then home. Everyone came to us last year so this year we are the roadrunners.

we travel every Thanksgiving and Christmas. We live outside of Chicago now for 20 years. My family (parents, sisters and their families) are all still in Kingwood. My wife's (no pics) family is all in Minnesota. We alternate. One year Christmas is in Kingwood and Thanksgiving in MN, then switch the next year. When we were kids, we lived in Lafayette, New Orleans then Kingwood. My dad's family was in Alexandria and mom's in Bossier City, and we always traveled. My kids are now 24 and 21 but not married. In my 60 years, I think I have woken up in the house I lived in on Christmas maybe 5 times.

We did this for years but when my wife was pregnant with kid no. 2 i shut that shite down. They are welcome to come to us for both Thanksgiving and/or Christmas but we don't travel. We do go see them numerous times a year but holidays are for our kids to be home.
edit: my mom didn't take it well at first but as the years have gone by, its all good now. The magic is for the children not for grown adults to go hours upon hours out of their way with their little kiddos just to see your parents and keep them happy.
