And congress just banned hemp THC. Weird times.

I'm currently looking for the text of the EO, but can someone explain to me how this is possible? Congress sets the schedules by statute. I can't conceive of how he could change that via EO. And I say that as someone who thinks this is a good thing.

I know this is because of how he signs his name, but it sounded like Trump was just coloring at the end there.

Just dumb and disjointed all the way around. Government is a damn cancer.

No it hasn’t. The DEA still has to approve it, the executive order is just speeding up the process.

I've traditionally supported this stuff but I might be reversing course
The amount of people reeking of weed and smoking in public is just out of control. It's aging me and I'll start shouting at clouds soon.

Tacky holiday decorations littering my neighbors lawns and making my neighborhood look like shite annoy me as well. Can we ban those?

Everyone has managed just fine with cigarette smoke for decades.

I don't believe an executive order can change the classification, but it can set things into motion.
My understanding is that it's a DEA/Congress thing and can't be done by EO.
DEA was scheduled to have hearings on it towards the end of Biden's admin, but it got delayed.

An executive order cannot directly reschedule a drug, as the authority to do so formally rests with the Attorney General and is typically delegated to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
The President does not have unilateral power to change a drug's classification through an executive order alone, since the CSA does not grant the President a direct role in drug scheduling, and such actions must be authorized by Congress or the Constitution.
However, the President can use an executive order to direct federal agencies like the DEA, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate the administrative process for rescheduling.
This process involves a scientific and medical evaluation, followed by a formal rulemaking procedure that includes public notice and comment, and ultimately a final rule published in the Federal Register.
While the President cannot force a rescheduling decision, they can influence it by directing agency action and appointing officials who support such a move.

THIS IS WHAT I VOTED FO(R)!!!!

DEA has already had the process going. They opened public comments last year and are still reviewing them. This just speeds up the process.

Congress only passes budgets now and they pile in other BS into budget bills as they can. Then everything else is done by EO and fights its way through the courts. It's an expensive jobs program.

It appears that the EO will direct the DEA to finalize a rule that has been working its way through the rulemaking process. The rule will actually perform the reclassification. Most likely there is statutory authority for that.
The text of the EO has not been published yet that I can tell.

So... this EO didn't really do anything?
I mean, I guess the vote of support might grease the skids a bit. But ok, that makes more sense

I imagined that when this day eventually came, I would see a totally different group of people surrounding President.

I think this is the administration just getting ahead of the momentum.
I mean when medical marijuana is passed in Alabama, you're on the wrong side of history trying to outlaw it.

Diesel truck exhaust bothers me when trying to enjoy the outdoors. We should ban those too.
