Flight tracking records showed a Cessna 550 that took off from Statesville Regional Airport at 10:06 a.m. was owned by a private North Carolina company that business records showed is affiliated with retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle.

Garrett Mitchell, AKA Cleetus McFarland, posted on social media that Greg, his wife, and son were on board the aircraft.

Biffle and Youtuber Cleetus McFarland are pretty close. Cleetus is hosting Christmas Tree Drag Race this weekend in Bradenton next to Sarasota. This plane might have been headed down for the race.

The last time I heard of Greg Biffle he took his own helicopter and was conducting rescue and re-supply mission in North Carolina after the flooding from Helene last year.

When I saw the number if passengers I immediately thought of Biffle and Cleetus and his gang.

Local media is reporting it was Biffle, his wife, and kids onboard. But that hasn't been confirmed.

Looks like obvious critical mechanical issue right after departure. They tried to return but looks like they touched down well before runway and slid.

Stories like this make my grateful I am not rich enough to be tempted to fly gen av.

Unless I was literally a 737 airline pilot for a major airline, I could never see myself taking my family up in an airplane that I myself was flying. What an awful situation. Can you imagine looking at your kids/wife in a crashing airplane, knowing that this is the end for all of you - and it all happened by your hand?

I hate to hear that if true. I always enjoyed watching him wheel that #16 3M Rousch Fenway Racing Ford around the track.
NASCAR has had too many fatalities over the years involving helicopters and planes.

Never catch me on a small plane or helicopter. Nope.

I talked to a Dr friend of mine he said he stopped flying because he was worried of the mental fatigue and not being 100% focus. He didn’t want to have an accident with his family.

Biffle is a legit hero for what he did during the hurricane recovery efforts in North Carolina. He personally flew his own chopper delivering critical supplies to people stranded by the storm. He also helped coordinate other private helicopter owners to join in the efforts and get supplies where it was needed the most.
Absolutely terrible if he and his family were on board, especially this time of of the year.
