T/F - high schools should be telling students to consider trades

For the last 40 years, the mantra has been "everyone should go to college"
Clearly, the proliferation of useless degrees - or of degrees in fields that are destined for the ashbin because of AI - shows that isn't the case, and won't be in the future.
Should schools be telling students to consider trades?
Should "shop" class be brought back?
Home economics?

Yes. Yes and yes.
Kids with trade skills have a lot of advantages in every economy.

We have a great trade school here in Hoover, Alabama. One of the best things the school system has implemented in years.

Public schools should absolutely require kids to take a financial math or even accounting course rather than trig or geometry or any other arbitrary math that they will never use unless they plan on taking an engineering route or something similar.

A lot of schools have moved away from college or nothing. CCMR is the mantra now, which is college, career military readiness. I know the local high schools have automotive programs, welding, etc.

Vo tech offerings should be expanded. True vo tech - the CTE model is not true vo tech.
Shop class and home economics should come back and there should be a three week cross over. Teach the boys how to grill, make a basic meal in the kitchen, and teach the girls how to change a tire and some basic household stuff.
The government taking over student loans has had some major downstream issues. The ridiculous cost of college has driven up the "college athletics is the end game" issue of youth sports, when has hurt communities and families.

TRUE. Blue collar jobs will not see quite the impact from AI compared to white collar jobs (which will be decimated).

Never met an electrician who didn't have a fishing boat and camp.
They are killing it and rarely get in an attic, roof or deal with shite water.

Absolutely they should! I’m talking to my younger two boys about going in that direction.

Wouldn't want it for my kids, but there will always be a demand for skilled trades. Kids who would otherwise go into debt to pay for college should look into it.

Twenty years ago I'd have lost my shite if my children didn't go to college. But now, my two oldest are getting trade certificates from a community tech school. I see no purpose to college unless you want to be a professional like a doctor, lawyer, scientist, etc. I've saved all this money in 529 plans and have nothing to spend it on.

True.
Without the trades, Doctors, Engineers, AI Developers, etc have no place to conduct business. Someone in the trades has to build out infrastructure and support it for any work to get done.
If you don't have plumbers, electricians, construction workers, HVAC techs, etc.. nothing will get done. Those guys make modern life possible for everyone else. "
Also, the trades pay very well and very soon if you are good at your craft. A good welder fresh out of VoTech will be making really good money and have relatively little to any student debt.

High schools in South Louisiana already have a strong "shop" curriculum. Even partnering with local industry and community colleges to help get them welding and other certifications before high school.

T/F - high schools should be telling students to consider trades
There's 2 reasons why:
1. supply vs. demand economics as it applies to the labor market
2. ROI for a college degree applied over all degrees by type

Somebody has to fix the cars, fix the toilets, weld things, etc. A good amount of money can be made with no student loan debt.

True
And while they’re at it consider teaching kids how to communicate without a device in their hands.

In 2 different HS I was apart of, they had Vo-Tech's that they partnered with. Kids were given the option to take a course through those Vo-Tech's and spend the second half of the school day everyday doing so.
The county I just moved from just built a big Vo-Tech school that all the schools in that county utilize for their schools. Offering the trade services and etc.
That is the move that schools should be partnering with
