Mansoor Delane… same admiration as PP7, Honey Badger, Delpit, Stingley, etc.?

Look I love that Delane came here and balled out and was a lock down corner and is racking up the hardware. Huge for him and good for the LSU brand. But man, I definitely do not feel attached to him in the same ways I did to the DBs of the early 2010s or even studs like Delpit or Sting. Maybe it’s because he’s just a 1 year transfer, who we didn’t follow his recruiting and see his development at LSU or something, maybe it’s cuz this season just sucked and the narrative was quieter. Anyone else feel this way though? That as a fan, I feel surprisingly just like “oh cool good for him!” about our first team all american DB?

Sign of the times really. These guys are 1-2 year mercenaries, although we're still proud of them and call them our own.

His problem is he was so good at his job, we really didn’t see him involved in the action.

You're not going to get the same level of fan attachment for players who are one year transfers.

Delanne also was so good at his position, that we almost never heard his name because opponents almost never threw his way.

PP7 and TM7 also got a lot of extra recognition because they were elite punt returners. And TM7 wasn't just a pure cover CB. They had him playing nickel slot and blitzing the QB, playing run support, and dropping into coverage. Dude was all over the field on any given play.

We had TWO first-team All-SEC defensive backs and wasted them.

Having him 1 year certainly makes it harder to get attached to him.

However he did everything he was asked and balled out. Helping to bring LSU back to DBU status he will be playing on Sundays for a while.

What you’re feeling is the new college landscape, 1 year and he balled out as an all American? Seems pretty legit

Thank you for your service Soor

Agreed, unless they win the national championship or heisman.

Buck up buttercup. Your post is fricking ridiculous.

We had Burrow for only two years. We had Daniels for only two years.

If you're lamenting your lack of knowledge of a one-year LSU player, take your feels somewhere else. Invest or don't invest, but don't complain about your lack of investment.

If you're really complaining about the changes in college football and using Delane as your stalking horse, then just come out and make your complaint.

Delane was awesome and I'm glad he became a Tiger.

It's not his fault our offense was historically bad... I call it the Sloan Age Offense.

I'll show myself out ..

1 year mercenary and was on a bad team

IT's tough to garner the love in those situations regardless of how good you are

That doesn't hurt as much as the Heisman QB we wasted in 2023

I feel the same... but more importantly, Im happy that the standard in our secondary is being restored. Delane's season opens the door for other transfer DBs that has played well and wants to take the next step from good to elite.

I think the point of a heisman or a NC is the key for the transfers. Achieve that and you are wrapped on P&G for life. Or be more than outstanding like Honeybadger and PP7. Returning punts also helps with your legacy.
