That's how socialism works in the real world

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who is now running to reclaim his old job, says what’s happening at MacArthur Park isn’t accidental — it’s ideological.
“The political establishment in Los Angeles is so knotted up in their ideology that they refuse law enforcement,” Villanueva told The Post. “When you have an absence of law and order, everything follows — drug trafficking, sex trafficking. It’s embarrassing.”
“This experiment has failed,” Villanueva said. “And the people living there are the ones paying for it.”

“There’s this idea that there’s a right to have drugs,” said Rick Caruso, a Los Angeles real estate developer and former mayoral candidate. “I don’t agree with that … This is a public park intended for families.”

The Post spent the last week inside the park, witnessing and reporting on open-air drug use, pipe smoking, hand-to-hand deals and city-funded paraphernalia — needles, crack pipes and food handouts — being distributed in broad daylight. That scene now defines the park.
quote:
“I need to introduce someone to you,” challenger Maria “Lou” Calanche told the crowd, hoisting a life-size cardboard cutout of Hernandez. “This is our current council member — who’s MIA.” The room erupted in laughter.
“This district is too important for a no-show,” Calanche said. “She’s skipped three in-person debates. Meanwhile, encampments have swallowed our streets. Parents can’t even take their kids to the park — there’s human waste on the swings.”
“We need action,” she said. “Not a cardboard council member who refuses to show up.”

Socialism is a massive scam. There are always people who are get paid at the top. Capitalism is the same but it’s honest about it and gives people a chance to lift themselves out of poverty. Socialism has no movement upwards.

I'm assuming the person logging into RFK's account today is the same person who has been logging in since the account was created in 2012 but the posts seem to be getting more lame and troll like.

I'm guessing there is some correlation between the quality of the work he provides and the amount he gets paid.
Thus the (obvious) difference.

Well, and the biggest difference - a person makes a choice to participate in capitalism. However, they are violently forced to participate in socialism.

Where can I find this in Marx? Or a corollary to the USSR? Or China today?
"Socialism" is nowhere near the correct word to use.

It’s incredibly evident in China. Members of the CCCP have an average wealth that is about 25% higher than the average citizen. Plus, the average wealth of elites within the party (delegate level) is something like 8-10 times that of the average citizen.

$240k does not get you in Los Angeles what it would in most SEC areas. It's probably worth half of what we perceive it as.
No commentary on the drug infested park, just pointing out the value here.

Doesn't look like it. They can say that all they want but their actions speak otherwise.

Why don’t you ask her? She describes her policies as socialism and is endorsed by DSA which she is a member of.
None of this has to do with Marxist theories, at least not directly, it has to do with failed policies that are described as socialism by the policymakers.
Her policy page

TRANSFORMING MACARTHUR PARK WITH CARE Peace Ambassadors Across CD1: CD1 now has Peace Ambassador teams in every neighborhood through partnerships with SEA, Community Warriors for Peace, Homies Unidos, and Healing Urban Barrios. These trained, community-rooted teams provide de-escalation and harm reduction—not handcuffs. In MacArthur Park, they: Made 300+ community contacts in one month De-escalated a multi-victim shooting Reversed multiple overdoses in collaboration with medical teams Mobile Overdose Response Team: Launched in 2025 with Homeless Health Care LA, the team has: Saved 50+ lives Distributed 3,000 naloxone kits Collected 7,000 units of hazardous waste in January, which dropped to 4,000 in February
You wonder why people think you are a leftist, and this is why. The one contribution you have to the thread is to question the accuracy of the post and article highlighting failed policies rather than those that made them. This is an absolute slam dunk that every person with the smallest bit of integrity can agree on, but here you are poking your head in to distract from it.

It's far better than that but even if was only half the effective buying power, $120k is well enough to live better than most of these elected officials deserve.
