Not super shocking. He's 66 years old and looks like a paw paw. His name was mentioned in a few LSU searches and it seemed the consistent messaging was that he was going to retire from Utah, and in the not too distant future. I'm sure this is partially NIL-related as well.

A Utah 247 insider (not mod) says Whittingham was diagnosed with blood cancer last week. He had been complaining of severe lower back pain the last few months

Whittingham not retiring here is the news. He’s been rumored to “retire” for several weeks now, but it sounds like that wasn’t totally true

To give you an idea of how long Whittingham has been the head coach at Utah, he replaced Urban Meyer when Meyer left Utah to go to Florida.
