On Off the Bench, Baker was asked what went into his decision to stay…….
It’s never just one thing. It’s never just cut and dry as some people may feel it’s supposed to be. It starts with, honestly my family. Sitting and talking with them. Kids are 10, 8 and 6 now. Hearing their input. We’re extremely happy here. Love the community. Love the support of Baton Rouge. Obviously being close to family. All those things played a major role in it, especially with as many times as we’ve moved in the last 5 years. I think that’s where it started. Probably everything else is probably lagniappe. You know, happy wife, happy life right?
Part of it was loyalty to current players and the recruiting class. I guess news had broke that I was taking the Tulane job. I had a lot of the current players texting and calling wondering what was going on. And just the timing of the recruiting class. You’re telling the guys that you’re going to be here next year and we need you to sign on the dotted line. I just couldn’t look myself in the mirror, say those things and up and leave in the next 24 hours.
Those things all cross your mind. I feel like we have unfinished business here. Not only from an overall team standpoint, but from a defensive standpoint. You look at the improvements from year one to year two and we really just want to see this thing through. I think we’re an ascending program, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Again, just the improvement from year one to year two. I don’t see a reason to take a step back moving forward.
The last part is just having a great conversation with Lane and getting clarity on things that are really important to me, not only from a football standpoint, but from a life standpoint. I think once all those boxes got checked and sitting down with my wife and kids, we woke up the next day and felt really really good about it. That’s how you know you made the right decision.
(Much more to the interview. Good stuff. Happy to have him here)

Thanks for sharing this and taking the time to transcribe it.
I for sure thought he'd be gone when Tulane came calling. Thankfully, I was wrong and he'll be here at least for another year. I'm not sure if Lane will have all his pieces in place in year one. However, one thing that's certain, is LSU should have a chance in every game with Blake Baker back calling the defense, despite losing some good players on that side of the ball.

I believe he would have made more at Tulane. It would have been more work for more money, but it aint just the money

He has little kids. Looks like they get to grow-up spending a lot of time with grandparents.

I have never heard anyone say a thing negative, personally about Baker and you see why. His intensity, character and loyalty are going to rub off on this program. He'll eventually make the jump, but in a perfect world I'd love for him to take over for Lane when he finishes out here.

Being an established coordinator at a big time program can get you a head coaching gig at a big time program. Look at Kirby Smart, Venables, Lanning, and even Jimbo. It's not now or never for Baker and, if he keeps up his success, he'll have better offers down the road.

Thank you for being a Tiger

How dare he and his family be…happy in Baton Rouge? That can’t be. I’ve been assured by many here and the entire SECR that living in Somalia is preferred to Baton Rouge.
I’m happy Blake stayed and the well-being of his family’s happiness were the major determining factors.
Baker may stay here a bit more than another year after all.

That's my DC. That Tulane job will always be there if he wants it. He can take it if/when he wants it as a permanent job. If he wants bigger jobs than Tulane, this is the better path.

A win-win for Blake.
Stay in BR to win a natty & Tulane (& other jobs) will still be there
