It was very smart for Baker to not go to Tulane.

The amount of things that it took for Tulane to make it to the playoffs this year is a once in a lifetime event.
Baker going in behind Sumrall would have been the same as Deboer going in behind Saban, except Baker didn't take Washington to the playoffs, nor does he have a built resume in head coaching prior to this Tulane gig.
In addition to that, which head coaches has he learned from? Eli? BK? Say what you want about Kiffin, but Kiffin himself has worked with the best of the best and seems to have the two most important things down, which are systems and culture.
So, again, I think this is an all around win for Baker. He has an opportunity , not just to win a national title at LSU now and become a National Title Winning DC, but he also has the opportunity to learn what Kiffin has learned from others and also what Kiffin has come up with on his own (from a culture, and HC decision making process).
When he does decide to go be a head coach, hopefully he'll get a gig in a P4 conference like Aranda did... and at least be able to float above water.
With that said, NIL will be interesting moving forward. I don't know how much LSU promised Lane, but I was told that Penn State of all places just promised the Iowa State HC 30 mil in NIL per year.
So, this is just the beginning of whether or not the LSU backers will have the commitment to stay above the game.

I think his wife being an LSU alarm and they’ve moved a lot in the last few years
I read that that was a big consideration that the wife was tired of moving
They’re already making bank
Stay put do something exciting in LSU and maybe get even that much bigger job later on the road

This was a good career move by Baker. He was already a hot commodity. If LSU has a great season next year, he may very well be the most lusted after coach and can write his own check.

I think LSU could beat Tulane right now. UNT had zero D. I don't think they score more than 10 on Baker's D. I think we score 20+ points on them.

My God... we LSU fans are delusional.
Sumrall has raised the standard at Tulane to a level that even he probably couldnt consistently maintain, just like Saban did at Bama after NIL hit.
It's very similar, but... as always...
the same geniuses that defended Kelly year after year, etc etc... you read anything someone says that isn't pure glaze as some insult or unjust criticism instead of objectively viewing what they are saying.

Are you aware Tulane had success pre Sumrall with Fritz? Sumrall is not their Saban

I know, dumb question, but is Baker staying actually official or just a Lane tweet?

Dude. Tulane is going to the College Football Playoff before Louisiana State University.
Fritz didn't do that. Apples and freaking oranges.

The AAC Conference Champion has had the Group of Five Auto-Bid to NY6/CFP in eight out of the past nine seasons.
Tulane has gone 29-3 in Conference Regular Season, including 7-1 this year, during the past four years.
Doesn’t seem that much like “luck” was involved.

Tulane looked very pedestrian. You are +5 in turnovers including a pick 6 SUPPOSEDLY, including a ball hitting a punt return blocker at the 12, including 3 INTs off of receivers' tipped balls and you win by a lousy 10 points? Not to mention one of the tipped INTs was in the end zone, and you have a team that obviously had a horseshoe, a 4 leaf clover, and a rabbit's foot all at the same time. N Texas WAS the better team and literally gave it away.
Tulane will get BLOWN OUT in the first round of the playoffs!

The simple answer is lsu paid him more as a dc

You made some good points but comparing to following Saban is going too far. Sumerall is a good coach. Let's see what he does at Florida.
Agree that Baker made a smart move. We are about to make a run at LSU, and he will have great job offers in the near future. Coaches want to win championships. He has a realistic opportunity here. He is already well paid, so that is a factor.

Just like a mid Top Ten USC & the Fraud Caleb Williams worked the Wave for 55 minutes in 2022.
Tulane Fans are going to wish they never made the CFP in two weeks.

Um no...Sumrall's success while impressive is nowhere near Saban's.

This is true. I still believe their AD pushed for someone with coaching experience. The boosters just saw Blake as the hotter name and pushed for him. I do understand his family's reservations. If you know this is possibly a job you will hang out at 2-3 years before taking a bigger one, why leave now? Stay where you are, make bank and get a bigger job sooner than later.

Baker was in a win-win situation.

Wrong. LSU went to the College Football Playoff in 2019-2020 long before Tulane. They destroyed all in their path to winning it all.
