It is generally easier to get a HC job once you actually are a HC, and Tulane has now given two guys in a row promotions (one a giant promotion), and its his alma mater.

idk think Tulane is legitimately the move for him.

If he wants to be a P5 Hc it helps to have HC experience
Tulane is at a really good place right now so if he has the ability he isn’t rebuilding it.
If he doesn’t want to be a P5 Hc he could just stay at his Alma Mater indefinitely if he has some success. they don’t expect a natty there

Kirby Smart
Dan Lanning
Ryan Day

All those guys did pretty well making the jump from Coordinator directly to head coach.

hiring practices seem to have changed a little in recent years. No one is saying he can't make the jump from here to a big program, but the current trend seems to be HC experience required

also, Day and Lanning did walk into already well-established machines

Baker should stay and wait for the inevitable Kiffin exit.

This is true if your goal is only HC.

If your goal is to get a taste of a national championship, he’d be better off staying a bit longer and getting it as a DC, then moving on. Rarely happens the other way around.

Depends what’s important to him.

Baker wouldn’t be here long enough to coach them when there relevant anyways.

Hate to see him go, but it’s the right move for him.

Baker could end up on LSUs HC short list some day if Lane decides to leave

Extremely unfair comparison.....

Kirby Smart - UGA
Dan Lanning - Oregon
Ryan Day - Ohio State

Tulane isn't one of those schools.

True statement. But we are only looking for reasons for him not to leave because it benefits LSU.

Brent Venables and Dabo Swinney both made the jump as coordinators to big time HC. Clemson does the Associated HC tag, maybe do that for Baker.

There’s definitely a positive track record of top tier schools hiring elite DCs with no HC experience and it working out.

Day was an "in-house" promotion after taking over when Meyer was suspended to start the season and ultimately had his "health issues" return again.

Kriby was sought after by other schools because of his success at Alabama, but the reason he got a job as "big" as the Georgia job is because that was his alma mater. It's unlikely he would have been the primary target of one of the bigger programs.

The biggest jobs out there this cycle hired current HCs. Could Baker parlay the LSU job into a big HC job? Sure. But history says the more likely path to doing so is by being a lower level HC first.

Plus, not only is Tulane a sold G5 program, it's his alma mater. I don't think he would leave LSU for just any G5 HC job. Tulane seems to be a good spot for him.

Does anyone have the latest on Baker? With Tulane playing tonight, stands to reason they would announce something or would they wait until after the game?

Lane is not going to stay here very long. 3-6 years, let Baker go get his HC experience and when Lane does Lane things, then we have Baker ready to take over

The options for CBB on an 7-5 team, although all the losses were to AP top 25 teams, will be substantially different if he stays put and is the DC for a NC team.

Look at the pieces that he will have to work with next year ALREADY, add the portal to that and the talent will be SICK; with an O to boot.

The timing is right for Tulane, but the ceiling would be through the roof if he stays a year or 2.
