These people you see on screen right now, in the middle of the 21st century, in a capital city with ambitions of nuclear power, are begging for a miracle: In Tehran, there's no water flowing from the taps, only the sound of air and despair. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with a historic resignation, declared, "We have no other choice," admitting that the capital is officially experiencing a "water bankruptcy."
In this video, we analyze the Tehran crisis, where civilization is drying up, and its devastating consequences for Turkey:

I recall there being some discussions within the last year or two about them likely having to move their capital.

Have they moved the government out of Tehran yet. Thread about a month or two ago talked about this water crisis. It may have been wrapped up in a Iran revolution or nuclear weapons thread.
Their government was serious about moving away from Tehran because of the water shortage.

Yes, thats their plan. That works for the clerical, government, and military folks but what remains of their 14 million are screwed. Left behind.
Analyst predict a mass migration north to Turkey.

I hope they end up battling it out. They are predominantly different branches of islam.

They can build rockets and nuclear weapons but they can't remove salt from seawater.

Maybe they should pray to a different God.

No doubt! Also, rise up and form a better government.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant manages to purify 555,000 gallons of water per hour to keep the core cooling system operational.
They should be able to desalinize for their people as well.

The problem is that they can't actually do either. Their nuclear program doesn't exist without direct support, research and manpower from foreign countries. It would have never got off the ground without that help and they'll never be able to figure out mass scale infrastructure without similar support. Unfortunately for them that would mean any country that comes in to help them would then face sanctions from the U.S.
It's not that Iranians aren't smart people individually, but their government structure isn't organized enough to take on a task that complex and large.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar are producing millions of gallons of water everyday, desalinization seems to work fine for them. I'm not sure why Iran is struggling so much for fresh water? The Caspian Sea (fresh water) is to the north of Tehran and the Persian Gulf is to the south. Not sure what would keep Iran from drawing water from the Caspian Sea?

The Israelis designed and built their water system. After the revolution, the Mullahs kicked out the Jews and tried to run it on their own and here we are.

It’s worse in Yemen.

How did Israel cut off Tehran’s water supply?
