What do y'all think about a balanced budget amendment? Democratic Socialists say no!

The only sure way the US begins the painful process of slowing and reversing the crushing debt spiral the US is currently experiencing is by passing a balanced budget amendment. It's infuriating to street level Americans to see the US Government running a $2 trillion annual deficit while they are expected to live within their means.
And it really pisses off fiscally responsible Americans to know trillions of US taxpayer dollars have been squandered over the past 25 years on needless wars, hundreds of billions to support mass illegal immigration, hundreds of billions in questionable foreign aid, much of what was likely misdirected, stolen, money laundered, or worse yet, the money was used by both external and internal enemies to facilitate the destruction of the constitutional republic.
It's not very surprising the majority of Democratic Socialist members of Congress do not want a balanced budget amendment, they believe the issue is taxes are too low and the government simply needs more of your money.

The only way it's going to happen is massive tax increases, because I don't see any demand from voters for any significant spending cuts.

The way you kick start the return to fiscal sanity is by removing the 15-20 million illegals and forcing able bodied Americans to get their asses to work. There are millions of people on full disability who could be working jobs that don't require a lot of physicality and there are millions of Americans who simply aren't working and have no desire to work. I still believe a balanced budget amendment is a requirement if the US is serious about getting US debt under control.

Has the “MAGA” populous been polled on their thoughts on a Balanced Budget Amendment? I would love to see the results of that, if so.

Thanks for the correction.
I knew it didn’t look right.
Now, do you know if there’s an answer to my question?

There is no such thing as an unbalanced budget. It's either paid for by taxes, borrowing or inflation.
And neither lenin marxists on the left, nor the neocon marxists on the right care about reducing government spending.

I believe the primary reason why they don't balance the budget is because to do so would end their chance to be reelected.

Just implement it to cover interest on the debt.
Nothing else. Just our annual debt borrowing costs.
The sales tax would float with cost of carry of our debt instruments. If interest rates escalated, so would the tax. If rates declined, so would the % of sales tax. If debt ballooned, as it has over the past 20yrs, so would the sales tax.
It would educate the public as to the real costs being run up.
When our $40T debt inevitably settles at a ~4% C-of-C, or ~$1.5T/yr, the sales tax would be raised to cover it. With ~150M US households, the debt coverage sales tax would run around $10,000.00 per household ... per year.
See, I think that is a shared cost exposure that might actually effing wake people up!

Until you fix the demographics and electorate dilemma, any talk of balancing the budget or having the federal government be fiscally responsible is a waste of time.
If you really want a balanced budget, your first priority should be mass deportations and mass de-naturalizations. Then it should be decreasing the franchise and electoral pool.
Once all of that happens to a sufficient amount, talks of things like balanced budget can resume.

We're well into the Tytler quote now. No one runs for office just to pass a law which will ensure they never win another election again and that's exactly what would happen if we were to have a balanced budget amendment. For FY2024 it would have taken a cut to total spending of ~30% just to balance the budget while still only servicing the debt. That's 30% off of military pay, VA benefits, Medicare/Medicaid, SNAP, highway funds, zip ties for ICE agents, fuel for military vehicles, electricity for every federal building, etc.
This means everyone would know someone personally impacted in a negative manner whether the person is a family member working in the Passport office, their friend who became a farmer and is trying to straighten out their FSA loan or granny needing Medicare for cancer treatments, etc.
We simply no longer have a population willing to sacrifice to that extent any longer so the result is going to be the USD eventually being crushed under the weight of federal debt.

How about abolishing the Federal Reserve? Why not fix interest rates? Im sure there are plenty of egg headed economists and monetary gurus who could determine a fix interest rate table for the various types of commercial, private and public loans that would be fair and workable for all.
How many times have you heard, "The markets hate uncertainty." ?
You abolish the Fed and fix reasonable interest rates and all the uncertainty is gone and everyone will know the cost to borrow money and they can plan accordingly.
But this^^^ will never happen because those who support the current Federal reserve are the same people who are first to the fiat money trough to get dibs on that cheap money.

How can you have balanced budget when the Federal Reserve has a stated inflation goal of 2%? Where is the extra 2% spending going to come from if not Congress?

My contention has always been this:
Prioritize everything. Rank one to a million. Anything that we did not bring in enough money last year to fund you don't spend. If we brought in 100 dollars last year. We spend up to 100 dollars this year.

You get elected to Congress tomorrow.
What would you do to EFFECTIVELY move the ball on this issue?
Now tell us how you would do that and be reelected,
If you actually did get anything done, how would you make it tamper-proof after your 2 year "career: in Congress ends?
