All jokes aside, there is no way doing that is better than hiring BK.

You're operating under the assumption he wants to work. He just has to seek employment, not take the job.

Probably a decent enough short term solution. The players want him, at least.

Smith is playing on the Joe Paterno truthers in the fanbase

Well they missed the boat and this makes sense and confirms that they are not looking at any coach that is in the playoffs. They might remove the interim tag and keep him for 2026 and consider that 2026 season a wash and could possibly look at someone good depending on the coaching landscape. They should have gone after Hartline. Oh Penn State.. You guys fired Franklin to do this at the end?

All that's left for them. Expect Kraft to step down next week.

If he is being offered jobs, and not taking them, I assume that would immediately be a breach and void his buyout. I seriously doubt that's how that works. If you're forced to seek employment, then you would also be required to accept offered positions, I would assume....

Brother was playing chess when he wore that Joe Pa button.

I feel like this proves they aren’t waiting on anyone.
How bad they screwed this search up when they had so much time is hilarious.
If they were this desperate they should’ve done this sooner so they could save most of their signing class, hypothetically.
I’m loving it.

Pretty wild given the entire recruiting class jumped ship. Usually if you’re going to go with the interim it’s so they can keep things glued together. Might as well keep calling him the interim into next year

If they fired James Franklin, and then turn around to hire the interim months afterwards while the program has been tanking around them......they should call it
. Just close the doors to the athletic department, or.....fire the entire building at a minimum.
I would venture to guess that they're truly regretting the decision to fire Franklin at this point. They honestly think they're on par with the other big name programs out there, and they're just not.... this process should show them that pretty clearly.

Yikes
This actually supports a different explanation that I thought about when trying to explain their situation.
If this is the case, it's a lot more likely IMO that they don't have the money to hire a coach after firing Franklin. This would be a bridge type decision to allow them to move forward with a better hire at a later time (next year or after).
To me, that makes a LOT more sense than they are waiting to hire Deboer.

This
However he could just intentionally bomb interviews but that would also be breach if you prove it. Ultimately would get ugly in court

They could have BK for 5 mill a year

they may....but reading their boards....they are in very very bad shape financially...if they have a bad season then have to hire a big time coach...they may be financially insolvent and not be able to do so.
its bad bad.
its bad bad.

And I am sure he will tell them he will accept any offer over 10m a year.

They're off the hook for all but about $9 million for firing Franklin. He accepted a negotiated settlement for his buyout amount right before it was announced he took the Va Tech job.
