Where do you live? Houston actually has a horrible subprime problem and will not be spared.

Well, the problem is clearly much worse than subprime now, but I read a multi-city study awhile back that had Houston pegged as above average in terms of subprime issuance.

I don't live out there so I can't be sure but it does seem like the commute on 59 to the north side is the least congested out of all of em.
I live in the Heights and try to duck the freeways so I can't be sure.

We really liked the Heights, but didn't feel great about raising kids there.

I live in South East houston. Obviously I don't think we will be "spared" but my point was that we did not see the big housing "Boom" that other parts of the country did. Our housing prices did not explode here. We had a lot built but the prices have always been reasonable and the prices have not to my knowledge fallen off drastically.
Are they supremely healthy...probably not. Were loans given to people that shouldn't have been...of course. But we don't have as much of an issue with the house your living in losing so much value that it is not worth paying the note on it anymore.
But as I said...i am no expert...so take it for what it is worth.

In the 'burbs of Houston, Austin, Dallas, etc... somewhat, but only somewhat. Man, I love how people may generalities....

No, the lot size is 0.17 acres or 7,318 sq ft. For some reason the zillow ad shows half as much square footage as the realtor's site, but I couldn't get that one to link correctly. Sorry!

Those property taxes arent that bad either. Cant compare to Louisiana because Texas has no state income taxes. If you are making $200k in Texas, a $10k property tax bill is better than paying Louisiana income taxes (~$12k on $200k income).
