Good for the liver. Bad for the heart and mental health.

Even social media isn't social anymore. 90 percent of time young people spend on social media now is watching videos.

Solid interview.

Less practice socializing face to face.

Less chance of meeting a spouse.

I really do consider myself a very fortunate person to have been a nightclub DJ in the 80s, because in many ways it seems like that may have been the last safe decade to be able to have fun

I partied hearty in the 80's. I learned so much from it. Wouldn't trade it for nothing. Don't think I'd enjoy it today (if it even exists).

Less gay $10-20 cocktails

More penny pitchers

It’s not all economic but it’s a start

All these kids nowadays think that the world revolves around them and that the sky is falling. If they got liquored up a little and laid more often they wouldn't be such killjoys. Too many incels on the male side and too many Onlyfan thots on the other.

it started long before covid for non economic reasons but i think covid/everything being more expensive + a shite job market for young people is sort of the final nail in the coffin

My son is a borderline genius.

In fact I might have to walk the back. Not borderline

He did a tiny (let me repeat that tiny) bit of studying for the SAT and just got the score in - 1460. Not Harvard level, but he could get into LSU. I think he thought he was smarter than he was and he is now really really doing SAT studies. I would not be surprised if a new score is 1500 plus..

Problem with him is be the biggest absolute dorkapolis in the world. All he cares about is Japanese Anime. And I cannot get him to undserstand that you can enjoy all that crap but AFTER you nail the SAT, dude you are so close!

Combined with AI for not having to even read thru search results to figure out the best and most accurate answer yourself society will not think for themselves, and social media will keep pushing ways to distract from even wanting to think for yourself.

They want us to be the effeminate blue haired capitalists from the Hunger Games that applaud when instructed and ignore what’s really happening around them.
quote:

We’ve all heard how social media is devastating teen mental health — but a shocking new report confirms it’s robbing pretty much everyone of the ability to focus.

The meta-study from Griffith University in Australia analyzed 71 surveys with more than 98,000 research subjects and found that consuming short-form video is associated with diminished attention span and inhibition control.

“I used to think the main damage from social media was to youth mental health,” psychologist Jonathan Haidt, author of the bestselling book “The Anxious Generation,” recently posted on X. “Now I believe that the global destruction of the human ability to pay attention may be even larger.”

Talking to The Post, he went even harder: “Humanity is getting stupider, thanks to our technology, at the exact moment when our machines are getting smarter … It started as soon as we all started carrying smartphones and scrolling past anything that contained four seconds of boredom.”

And that goes for all ages. John, a 27-year-old law student from Michigan says short-form video — like TikToks and Instagram Reels and stories — has taken a toll on both him and his Boomer mom.

He admits it’s hard to watch TV without reaching for his phone and that he never eats a meal without engaging with some form of social media.

Not sure you know what “genius” means.

Didnt have kids till our 30's, started getting way more social in our 40's. Taking trips, going out, etc

Dont regret any of it
