Probably about to start cutting smaller sports. I guarantee if you take football out of their budget that deficit is either at or above 100 million

I graduated from CU after transferring from Miami and have felt for a long time that both schools could get rid of their football teams and it wouldn't really be a big deal.

Yeah Deion generated a buzz for a short time but neither school has a student body that generally cares about football and lucrative out of state students are always going to want to come to Boulder whether there's football or not.

Deion is 16-21 at Colorado that’s a horrible ROI

From the article:

quote:

The department has “never reported a deficit that big before,” and the two biggest reasons for that is the $20.5M being paid to players and the $10M per year for football coach Deion Sanders. CU said that “it will ‘not cut sports nor cut any resources for student-athletes’ but will look to cut expenses.”

Wait a minute. The athletic department is paying $20.5M to the students DIRECTLY? I thought this was illegal. So now broke college kids have to pay the million dollar salaries for other college kid athletes?

Deion making top-10 money but has absolutely no idea how to develop the program.

At a certain point being entertaining only goes so far.

For Colorado I agree. Miami not having a football team would cause a stir

Around the country, sure, but not really on campus or in Dade/Broward counties.

CU projects record deficit driven by player costs, Sanders’ salary

Ouch, that's gotta hurt. All that money to go 3-9 too.

People are donating to those collectives or doing their own NIL deals instead of the schools booster clubs now.

Although I wonder what a good forsenic audit of their athletic department will reveal.

I hope all the Sanders ego projects were prepaid. I'd hate to think that the people who produced them would be stiffed by the University.

So Colorado spent $30 million to buy a Heisman and retire the jersey of a 5th rounder...

Does Deion have the receipts?

Can you imagine the horror an auditor would find in that program's expenditures?

Reminder that his son Shilo filed bankruptcy and is being sued by his own lawyers for not paying $165k in legal bills after he allegedly assaulted a high school security guard that was trying to take his phone. He refused to show up for the trial and got stuck with a $12 million default judgement

A lot of high profile current and former pro ball players were all over campus during the games. I wonder how many will pony up for a coach who does a lot of bragging but has not won anything of significance at UC.

agree about Miami but they’ve made it work anyway. None of the below is news to you as a buff grad but:

-CU is the state flagship university
-Boulder is an incredible place to learn/live/work
-CU campus is beautiful
-Folsom Field is a fantastic stadium
-wealthy potential donors abound
-they are Denver’s college football team also, even more money and interest there
-Denver area recruiting is right there

they have everything you want to build a respectable program, a real sleeping giant. Miami is a private commuter school that barely exists in the community except for sports. CU is way more than that
