Some interesting tidbits in the article if the details are worded correctly.

- The article says 80% of the $91M contract is guaranteed, not 80% of the remaining contract. If that’s accurate, LSU won’t owe Kiffin much if he lasts at least 4 years. 80% of $91M is just under $73M. They would owe him $21M if they fired him after 4 seasons, and $8M after 5 seasons.

- Everyone assumed LSU was guaranteeing $25M in NIL from prior reporting, but Dellenger says it was $25M including revenue sharing, so only around $10-$12M in NIL. That’s less then they spent on this year’s roster.

- The article confirms that Kiffin says OM prevented him from meeting with his players contrary to the false narrative they told the players.

- It was a done deal on Saturday night. I know there were other sources stating the same thing, but this is the first laying out the details of how it transpired.

I just do not want Verge & Co to extend him forever, if he wins a championship —- we did that too quickly with Miles. Orgeron too.

i woudln't worry about any of that after a championship. i understand miles and o, but you might have to with a coach of kiffin's caliber. i would welcome the extension.

I’m not 100% what the new rules are but we will have as competitive of a pool as any program out there

Why would it be concerning?!? He made it very clear LSU put forth the strongest NIL plan.

A lot of people are suggesting the power shift is coming back to the bigger programs with NIL rule changes, so lane wanted to get out of Oxford before the music stopped.

Yeah, I actually do believe that.

I was just questioning how it was worded if it was a concern or not.

This sounds right.

No one should have been. It was always reported as $25M-$30M total, including the $15M in revenue sharing.

80% of the remaining contract at the time of termination. This is a pretty standard buyout despite what moscona has been saying

Our roster cost $18m this year… total

The budget for our roster next year is $25+ (rev share + NIL)

This needs to be looked into further. The article says explicitly (80% of his $91 million is guaranteed).

Something doesn't sound right the way it was written.

The term sheet explicitly says it’s 80% of what’s remaining, paid out in equal monthly installments over the remaining term.

It’s just the way it’s written. It means the same thing though. Technically he will be paid at the very least 80% of his contract.

Dellenger’s reporting is top flight journalism that tells the story of LSU’s
successful bid to make the biggest head coaching hire in this cycle—indeed in years. Well done. Ross may be the best reporter covering college football.
